Warrior questions

Chops

Soccer Dad
Alright, so I spent my first night plugging away at WSG and have some burning questions because 19s is way different than any other bracket I've played.

So...

My normal play style has always been overextend, then recover. In other words, I just mongo in and hope for the best. This is fun and has always been more-or-less effective. In 29s and 39s, Im either WAY overpowered (29s) and just kill everyone without worry or I've got the tools to get out of sticky situations (39s). In 19s, Im finding this is... well, not possible. Overextending is very easy to do and very quickly punished.

In short, I died. A lot.

I find myself in the following situation often: The initial mid clash happens and our ranged DPS is sitting at range with our healers at max range behind them. Their side is set up similarly. As a melee DPS, I can't engage their DPS without SEVERELY ranging my heals and theres simply no way I'm getting to their healers. So I'm stuck just sitting around in the back, hoping someone on their team overextends or, if I'm lucky, cleaning stealthers off of our healers. This is the most action I get all game.

Is this normal? Or should I be asking/expecting healers to move up with me? I feel like we should be pushing forward, but 9 times out of 10, "pushing forward" means overextending. Winning the mid clash appears to mean winning the game and I feel pretty useless twiddling my thumbs, waiting on a rogue to open on our healers. Am I just being impatient?

Should I be sword and board in D stance when I engage? I tried that a few times but it felt rather stupid.

Am I just unlucky and get games with more ranged classes than usual, thus spreading the field and mitigating my usefulness?

In other words, whats the warrior meta? Because "drunken wrecking ball" appears to work everywhere but 19s.

I usually focus on getting their front liner first, if you get the 2 melees ( usually warrior and BM) then you're already half way there. If the enemy mid team is based on ranged only, stay back and charge any ranged who over extends in that situation and try to land a kill with your team. I do not recommend charging in when the enemy team is ranged only.

Other than that, keep your rends up at all time and have a constant control over your position and try to stay close to your healers. Also i recommend defending your healers. If the situation is there that the enemy team has like 2 rogues and rest are ranged, stay back and charge the rogues who pop up on your healers, that way u save your healers and u have a bigger chance over controlling mid.

If you got a good team with a decent amount of healers, u can push in at a mid fight... Don't forget to keep track of your position AND your healer's position whilst doing this.

Hope this cleared up some things, good luck and see you in the gulch!

jk it's mostly rend-tab-rend xd

only overextend when you get 1+ crusader and you're not on my team

Kind of depends on other teams comp. If you are first to jump in with a lot of ranged on other team, you will be gibbed. In that instance, I feel like your best bet is to act as linebacker for a little bit, and get any melee that's on your healers. This is from a healer's point of view, however. I guess what I'm saying is that often a warrior that charges in first thing, is often a lost cause, BUT if your team can keep him up, he can destroy. I suppose it really depends on your healers, and how much dps the other team is going to put on the first target presented to them.

You can try to get your healers to pull up, but then they expose themselves to rdps, CS's and shears. I'd say try to establish some sort of relationship with your healers before the gates open beyond "LF pocket healer". Make sure you're on the same page. You might be able to charge in, if they are ready for it. If you're playing ally right now, many of the healers are new, and and also learning the meta. They also might be surprised at how fast you die.

That being said. When I'm playing my hunter, I go balls out and only worry about dying in certain situations. Dying can be great for repositioning to play defense.

On a side note, but along those lines, is there an addon that shows when the 30 second respawn timer occurs? This would be great for timing timely deaths.
