Confirmation of VET profession level

The Beast Within
Hi guys, I'm really sorry if this has been answered in full somewhere else, but I can't seem to find a definite answer. I saw somewhere something that said once you go VET, and your sub expires, then say I have 225 in a primary profession, then if I do something to earn a point in that profession it will take me down to 75?

I read something about the Darkmoon Faire quests, so I can easily avoid that, but what about fishing dailies, or even picking herbs. Will that mean it will drop my professions to 75?

My sub ends in less than 2 days, and I've twinked out a 20 and just want to make certain I don't ruin it by doing something I shouldn't.

If anyone that has VET experience on this matter please confirm that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.:D

Thanks Lennyw for the response.

So what was it I was reading somewhere that you can sometimes get your profession dropped back to 75? Was that just the DMF quests that bugged professions? So I'm safe as long as I don't do the DMF quests and will still be able to craft 100 items?

I should be ok then, I just saw some funny things on various threads about VETs having professions act as if they are 75.

There is a bug though, you are not able to create level 100 proffestion-required items for some reason, but starter accounts (unsubbed) actually can.

This bug has been going on since the release of Veteran accounts. I have tried to report this thing many times but without result, i hope this get fixed in 6.2 though.

Lenny, say I have a F2P account that is linked to a Vet account. Will this still count as F2P or will I have the same restrictions with my professions? One thing I noticed about this Vet account bug is that you can't do any archaeology as well. Like it let me get archaeology, search for the relics, found one and clicked on it and it said my account couldn't perform that action.

I'd like to not have the profession restrictions and still be able to obtain all the looms I have on my Vet account.

I (and others that have linked F2Ps [which aren't the same as vet accounts]) can confirm that linked F2P accounts still counts as a F2P account, without the (bugged?) profession restrictions that vet accounts have, while still having access to P2P stuff like mounts, pets, and of course guild BoAs.

In short, there's a difference between a WoW account that's not had a battlechest or expansion upgrade ("pure" Starter Edition Account) and a Vet account (Or a Starter Edition Account, but with a battlechest or expansion upgrade attached), and linking the two accounts (or moving a WoW account from another battle.net account to your primary battle.net account) won't change the distinct account statuses of either WoW account.
Or in other words, that linked F2P account will get those profession bugs if and only if it was upgraded to battlechest.

Alright, great thread topic to present for inspection and correction what I've gathered on Vets and professions with the great help of Lenny, Vandiir and others. :)

Mistakes/misunderstandings are mine.

Vets and professions:

While still subscribed, future vet 20s can level primary professions to 225 (excepting racials) and secondary skills to: 375 for Cooking and Fishing, 225 for First Aid and Archaeology (possibly higher with more gold? needs to be verified), but:

There is an issue where after the subscription ends, either the account regression itself OR doing a quest that awards professions skill causes a sort of invisible lock out for any primary or secondary skill! The skill will still be displayed at the reached level, but crafting or using anything above (approximately) 75 will be impossible:
Cannot create / use / equip anything above 75 once locked out.
Probably cannot level any skills above 75 either, if starting fresh while the subscription has lapsed (needs to be verified).
Can prospect and find but not retrieve Archaeology relics.

If this issue does not occur:
Can still craft profession items up to 100 and use / equip items up to 225 (excepting racials), if the skills have been leveled while subscribed.
The exception are enchants; cannot apply P2P enchants to their items once the subscription has ended.
May still be able to use Archaeology (needs to be verified).

Proposed solutions:
Level profs while subbed.
Stock up on all >100 items you want to use.
Apply all enchants.
Once vet, do not do e.g. DMF quests that reward skills.
Cross fingers?

Good luck. :/

Yde, I can confirm secondary professions can get past 225 (for at least fishing). I have my priest at 450 fishing while I had my free 10 day trial play time.

Thanks to all the responses so far. I think I'm starting to get the picture. My sub ends in less than 24 hours, and I'm nervous.........

I haven't yet max'd my fishing or archaeology. I'm hoping that the fishing dailies won't trigger that profession bug for VETs. If anyone knows whether fishing can be bugged that would be great. Alchemy and Herbalism I'm not so fussed about, although there are some 90 & 100 potions I'd still like to make.

And MilkProtein - how in the world did you get 450 fishing in 10 days :O

Ohh, so nervous. This will be my first time since I started WOW 5 years ago that I won't have a P2P account, but I am looking forward to VET play. I just hope my profs stay as they are!

Haha, it wasn't in 10 days. I had leveled it up previously to max on F2P. The only restriction, and the reason you can't get above 350 or 375, is the gold cost for the training. So once you level all the way up to 350 or 375 (forget how high you can get) and then you activate that 10 day trial you'll be able to technically get to max level if you have the gold.

This is the method I used, but honestly, I popped my 10 day free trial too early (I heard you get them every 6 months if you don't sub). Now I'm a little smarter about it and have about 600 Windwool cloth chilling in my bank for my next 10 day trial - all fished up from darkmoon faire. After 4 more months until my next 10 day trial I should have a ton of stuff for the Auction House and be at about 3k gold hopefully.

Ok update guys. My worst nightmares have been realised.

I turned VET last night, and this morning I tested my VET lvl 20 toon.

Alchemy - even though I have 100 Alchemy, I cannot make anything greater than 75 skill level
First Aid - I have 225 First Aid, but can only make items up to 75
Cooking - I have 150 Cooking, but can't cook anything past skill level 75

I was able to level fishing though, even though on my profs page it shows up red as if max'd. Currently 268 Fishing - levelled 2 points today, 1 by fishing and the other by handing in a fishing daily quest.

So it does seem profs are bugged for VET big time. I'm spewing, as I had stockpiled so many mats in my Reagents Tab it's not funny, and now I can't do didely squat with them :( Major bummer!

Blizz clearly say you should be able to level any profession up to 100, so you would assume you can create things up to 100. And I thought 2ndry profs could go higher, but it seems to have bugged them back to 75 also.

Going to try and link some images here FYI.

Are other VETs in the same boat as me? I know others have put in tickets, but I'm seriously going to ask Blizz to get this sorted as it really sux!

Omg lol ... I suppose we shouldnt try to even touch the proffs while the sub still holds?

Want to point out that without an active subscription, veterans can't apply only non-vanilla enchanting scrolls.

eg u can't use an "Enchant Weapon - Elemental Force" scroll, but you can use an "Enchant Weapon - Crusader" one.

Also Ihave a f2p shaman that can craft Elixir of Wisdom while my veteran shaman can't (different WoW account, same bnet account) due to the above mentioned bug.

Ok - I put a ticket in and it appears this issue with profs is intentional. But it doesn't make sense as Vet's clearly can't do professions like pure F2P toons.

Here is what the GM wrote to me in response to Vet profs. I have a feeling nothing will be done about it given they believe it's intentional :(

I'm sorry about the discovery that you're unable to craft anything over skill level 75. :< I can explain why that is.

The website does say that you can level up a profession to level 100 [for all professions]. However, there's a key detail that was left out. Possibly because it would take awhile to explain it. :p

You're only able to craft items that are up to skill level 75, because if you were able to craft anything with a higher skill level, it would allow a player to raise their profession skill level beyond the 100 cap.

The 2nd profession stage for all professions allows a crafter to create items up to level 150, which is 50 higher than the veteran account cap. So all recipes that are beyond skill level 75 have to be locked to keep the cap at 100. This is intentional.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this and don't hesitate to ask us for help any time! :D
