Post number 81 :
Please don't be offended by our self-identifier, our term of endearment. The people who simply popped in to say hi are the people my thread is directed at. It's right there in the tag.

If you'd like to argue please take it elsewhere. I appreciate all of you remaining on-topic.

I have two linked accounts, and one unlinked account, the unlinked account has two maxed out rogues on it. Am I pure as a player, or is it the account that's pure? If I once had a bored 85 who I didn't know volunteer to watch over me while I looted the Guru chest, does that make me impure?

As a moderator I am very, very concerned every time someone brings up the contentious beauty contest of "purity". I'm going to allow it, because I trust that everyone's going to remain civil, so please let my faith in you all be rewarded.

I'd say you read it again lol, grouping is allowed :p
I seriously dont get why people cant see that border even tho its thin. If you pay 5 eu or w/e to obtain guild looms or proffessions: vet.
if you're a trial account with nothing linked than you're f2p.
if you have guild looms but choose not to use them then you're f2p.

it's all about restrictions imo, external help dousn't mean you paid anything or w/e

Grouping with high level P2Ps? That would make you impure by definition. Someone paid to get you to that item/content. Doesn't matter if it wasn't you.

Am I pure as a player, or is it the account that's pure?

An excellent question. I doubt most people would like the answer to the former or the latter.

If I once had a bored 85 who I didn't know volunteer to watch over me while I looted the Guru chest, does that make me impure?

Yes, I did something like that once. In Un'Goro Crater. I carry the shame with me still.

Cool.

No one is shaming people who aren't pure. The discussion here is about people who haven't upgraded.

If that is grounds for you to even mention the possibility of closing the thread, then I am extremely ashamed of what Twinkinfo has become.

Since I rarely play endgame much these days, more times than not my main account is a vet account. However, more than not I play my pure f2p.

Yes, I have grouped with p2p in the community to get some things, but no I do not consider that "unpure". I did not pay for anything on that account, ergo, I achieved it all for free. I don't really care if you consider that "unpure", but it is what it is.

:D

That's fine, but, you didn't phrase it that way. You phrased it in a way that's bound to raise controversy as you can see already in other people's responses. Looking at sicknature's response is a good example of why using the term "F2P" is dangerous now. People really ought to only be thinking in terms of what your account status is: Starter, Veteran, or Subscriber.

Asking who is still playing on a Starter account is no problem. Asking who is opting to not use gear obtained from a linked account, also cool. But admittedly, when you use the term "pure", with as subjective as that word is, it starts to sound very judgey judgey. Not saying you intended it that way, but I think the responses show that at least some people hear it that way, what with talking about "selling out" and "shame".

You say no one is shaming people. I believe that you aren't shaming people. I'm only saying that I'm counting on everyone else to keep the same level of integrity that you have.

Edit: I got mixed up between Activate's original post and Bop's reply, thinking the reply was Activate. I hope my intent is still clear.

Havent upgraded or really considered it much, hasnt been a problem so far bracet is actually pretty balanced anyway.

I can echo this. I've had little issues, honestly. For me, I would have really only had a big interest in vet if it was able to lock xp. I still play my vet account occasionally, as it's got a ton of things I worked hard since Vanilla earning on it. But the experience doesn't compare with me as a "Pure" starter does.

The entire reason I got into F2P had nothing to do with it being free.

Kind of wish I was still pure. </3

I remember about a week after i got myself linked, I felt like I was cheating.

I'm sure if I decided to go vet, It'd give a worse feeling.

I linked a long time ago to make grouping easier. My f2p's gear was all pure, but I guess since I'm already dirty, I might as well go whole hog.

I have an unlinked starter, linked starter (with no guild looms equipped) and veteran. I have not upgraded my "pure" starter and probably will never upgrade it. That said, it's mostly for nostalgia purposes and I have not really played that account in quite a while. Just move with the times and stop intentionally gimping yourself in the name of whatever because that ship has sailed.

Vet, though in the original sense of an old paid account that I was able to re-access again without a sub.

I logged out of my f2p acc, without confirming I still have the right password. Unfortunately, the mail server I used for the account no longer exists, so I can't get it back. Adios, Xába!

Luckily I DID find my old Blizz auth token, so I was able to log in to my Vet account from a few years ago. I found a L16 druid that already a full complement of 16 slot bags (I think it was an old bank alt) so I'm levelling him now. Whether or not I'll pay for a sub again once the WowTokens kick in I don't know, so I'll play him as a f2p for as long as I can.
