Request : Item Scaling Chart

For someone who has been out of the scene since Cata or earlier, it is very frustrating to gauge what items will be BIS, how you can adapt certain builds or just find things you want to try when you need to take into account item scaling. Some items scale higher, others hardly at all, and there is no dedicated list or really any info when trying to do research, apart from armorys. I'd appreciate if someone would take the time to make something like this, or at least have some sort of compiled info in a thread like this.

All part of the fun of twinking is figuring the gear sets out for yourself, not copying someone else's set.

What a nice observation! It is indeed my opinion. As anyone can just copy another's gear list. But it takes a little bit of knowledge of the game to come up with the list and the playstyle. What works for me might not work for someone else.
I will now let you have command of this thread and let you have the last word in the debate as no doubt you must have it no matter what. That is, unless you can prove me wrong, but I doubt you can hold yourself back.

Actually it doesn't require any knowledge to make an item scaling list. You simply grab every item, join a battleground or skirmish and write down the stats. A list like this would actually help people to pick an item set that fits their playstyle without having to figure out themselves what each item scales to.

I recognize the want for an item scaling index and am currently making one.

That being said, it really isn't that hard to look through Armories.

I know, I know, you want to try out new gear and the like. The fact is, their really arnt that many variations of gear to go through, there are certain ways to run "BiS", and there are hybrid builds that may be personalized. For the most part, you won't have a choice, or it will be a 1 int versus 1 crit etc choice, which I can guarantee has been debated in the forums already (The new rogue bis thread has a ton of interesting information and math regarding rogue builds).

.

As far as I can tell armories do not show the scaling at all.

Pattern was just suggesting to look at a few armories to get some ideas for gear. We should have a few guides out there as well.
As far as item scaling, hopefully someday. Wowhead, or another site, will have a scale simular to the heirlooms for each piece of gear. It could help for each bracket. There is no telling what some gear scales up to at higher levels.
Maybe I should really start trying for LFH for a stamina set if 39's becomes actives. Or something else. Who knows.

I was mostly saying that in Muskies case, there are a ton of resources to be used. Yes armories don't show scaling but they show gear differentials that are usually plain in their tradeoffs.

The most confusing thing I could think of debating would be Belt of Fang versus Tarantula Silk Sash for resto fc. Armor versus stamina, Agi versus int.

All of that being said, again I fully recognize a need for an index and will hopefully finish one today.

I have checked tons of armories, i have researched the items, but for example, on druids i see plenty of people using uninsured bracers, whereas i have the opportunity to get bracers of the ancient grove before i switch horde, knowing that i will never play feral i wonder if its worth the hassle of doing the quest. an index would help me figure these things out instead of making me get every piece of gear just in case

If it is a hassle then why do it? Aren't you playing the game to have fun? I know I am. This is not a serious competition or "work". I am not here to impress anyone over the Internet. If you see it as work then you should reevaluate how you spend your leisure time.

Just because some people like to "work" at their hobbies does not mean that they need to reevaluate their leisure time. I find that I get more enjoyment out of the game, or any other hobby for that matter, if I work at it.

Wowhead already has this for heirlooms and i've also seen the bar for scaling on some gfd blues ^^ (jackhammer)

No no, I could not agree with you more. The game is about all about goals. Even more so since achievements were added in 2008. However, when it comes to where it is no fun, a hassle, is it really worth it? When you say to yourself it is a hassle to do it, do you do it for fun or are you doing it just to reach that goal? And the is exactly what Muskie asked.
Myself, I am a completionist. That is why up until WoD I had done every quest, had every recipe, every pet, most mounts, done most of the achievements in the game and even had a few server firsts.
So, to me before I faction changed I would get everything. Transmog items and all. I am a min/maxer. Simply because, you never know what is in store in the future. Look at how the last few patches have transformed the twinking community. All new enchants, scaling, all new brackets, new battlegrounds! Pretty unbelievable!
In muskie's case he/she is not faction changing, but some day that quest may be gone. Now, he/she may have no plans of keeping this toon I have no idea.

I'm willing to help check out some of the items I may already have floating around in my bags, but I'm far too lazy to actually go out and get all of the items that may scale. If you give me a list of things you'd like to see, I'll check which ones I have and report back on how they scale.
