What made you enjoy twinking back then? (1.12.x > 2.4.3 > 3.0)

Legend
We all have fond memories of the "Golden Era" of twinking, which personally I'd say was mid through late TBC to early WOTLK prior to the XP lock change.

What made that era so magical? Why was it so amazing? Was it the community? Was it the innocence of the twinking scene back then? Was it because you had to work for your twink and be knowledgable? (ie: no heirlooms, no XP lock)

Was it a combination of things? What was it in your opinion?

A bit of history: I used to play on French server back then. Butcherböb (twink in my sign) was the last 19 I had before the separation of xp-on / xp off bracket happened in WotLK that I didn't level or delete. I created him sadely too late only a week before the separation or so. That explain the low HK because xp-off bracket died pretty fast for Fr servers. I just dusted him off yesterday and transferred him to Draenor before my account go vet.
Quickly after the separation in WotLK we heard from fellow French players that English servers had exp-off queues. Then started an exodus from Fr to En servers (mostly Draenor and Alkahir).

What I loved about this period (mostly 19 twinking in BC for me) In this order:
1) Quick queues
2) Class diversity: I played a 19 lock. The kind of thing you wouldn't see nowadays. I loved the fact you could cross most classes in WSG. From enh to feral to locks etc even if hunters / rogues and priests were already boss back then.
3) Communauty: Gurubashi drama. WSG has its 2-3 teams. We knew everyone, who had the best train, the best flag pickers etc. Server based guild competitions etc.
4) Old WSG. When it was more about flags hunting and less about mid fight or GY containment. (I thank you not GY change)
5) You had to work hard to get your AGM (was pretty much impossible on my server) and LFH (quite hard)

I played a 29 and 39 hunter during TBC, for a time I really enjoyed one-hit killing everything, but after a while I decided to go defend instead, being a hunter with Track Humanoids and Track Beasts, I don't think any horde has ever capped a flag while I was playing, that was fun :p

Also played a level 39 Tauren warrior for a while, someone paid all the gear and enchants on that character for me, so we did battlegrounds together, could just grab flag three times and cap. If there was any other enemy twink it was just Concussion Blow and by the end of the stun he'd be dead (Concussion blow was WotLK wasn't it?).

I never graveyard farmed after 29, didn't enjoy that at all.

In TBC, I BGd a lot in the 10-19 bracket on my first character I ever made (now my 19 hunter). Being my main back in the day, with less than 20g, I was able to purchase my FotL, Clefthide for Dark Leather Pants, level my engineering up and tip people to run me through DM while I waited outside the entrance (good times). He is on a separate account now so I barely ever play him. I have very distant memories of my time in warsong gulch with him, the only thing I remember was this twink guild on Area 52 that always had really good twinks on Horde.

All this to say, 19s to me were fun because I did everything from scratch with no real main. It was like the f2p of cata/mop to me, which is also why I enjoyed f2p so much :)

Character specific achievement points was the main reason for my level 1 twink throughout Wotlk and early Cata (some might recall my level 1 twink as the ugly female dwarf rogue with Marshalling Point called Uglytwink).

Sponsor Sponsor Sponsor, oh the fun I had with that twink was SURREAL in Cataclysm. People always ask me: "why on earth would you twink at level 10". Simply put, here is the answer:

I play lots of WSG on my 10, although the bracket is mostly run by 19s now. My damage is nowhere NEAR what I used to do. Knowing that my warrior was once this strong is quite saddening. Hoping that someday I will see these numbers once again.

I had a 29 twink Paladin with Crusader on a Cobalt Crusher back in 1.11 and 1.12. That was loads of fun being able to kill people with a 500 white crit --> 550 Seal of Command --> 400 Judgement of Command crit --> 120 damage proc.

My only BC twink was a 59 SL warlock with 2 pieces of dreadheart and the rest + stam outland gear. It was definitely fun playing with 8k health in the era before DK's. Didn't do a ton of damage and oom'd quickly, but survived forever.

The favorite had to be the 3.1 era Holy Paladin twink. I spared no expense getting 300+ spell power and having a holy shock that crit for 1k+. Never have I had so much fun on a twink, dominating in both healing and damage (1700 HS heal followed by 1k instant FoL all day).

I did love the Cata era level 70 twinking scene and had a hunter, shaman, priest, and warrior in the bracket, but didn't latch on to any class in particular.

You had to PLAN your 19 out back then. Plan ahead of time, way ahead of time so you would not go over on XP. It was both a blessing and a curse. Only the truly organized had a fully optimized setup.

Queues are currently relatively short compared to what they have been in n the past. I can remember seeing estimated wait times of over 8 hours.
Sure, twinking as a whole has become a little watered down and we have less abilities and ever less talents. But I think the game as vastly improved since tBC.

/cheers

Ehmm.. Wall jumping in SW? Or what did u guys do between the queues? Rogues with +70% dodge! Overpower ability on warrior
