Introduction:

Hello everyone. I'm CaptainPonysock, formally known as Xibalba. I started playing the 20-24 bracket in late cata as a spriest, I ended up swapping to a rogue after several months of GY farming jajas with Holy Crit. For the majority of MoP I mained rogue in the 19 bracket, and the 20-24 bracket. After becoming bored of the class, I began to search for a new class I enjoyed to play. That class ended up being a Monk, a Windwalker Monk more specifically. Which brings me here, A chance to share my knowledge of the class, how it works, and obtaining the best ideal builds. My guide is based off my opinion. Your opinion may differ from mine, if you disagree with anything I have to say in my guide, feel free to share your thoughts.

Relevant races:

Horde: Blood Elf / Tauren

Blood Elf: My personal preference for horde, Blood Elf is home to arguably the best racial of all races, Arcane Torrent. Blood Elf makes a strong offensive powerhouse of a WW monk.

Tauren: Tauren offers War Stomp. War stomp is a great offensive and defensive ability. Best for an emergency peel for your team/healers, can also be used out of FoF as an extra interupt.

Alliance: Human / Night Elf / Gnome

Human: My personal favorite for Alliance, Human offers Every Man For Himself and The Human Spirit

Night Elf: Night Elf offers Shadowmeld. A very strong racial if used properly. Smeld can be used to completely dodge an ability from an enemy target, i.e Hammer of Justice

Gnome: "gnome is super strong for monk 1 min CD Escape Artist + lust its hard to lock you down with slows/roots also allows lust to be used on teammates without having to worry about being slowed yourself" - Marb 2015

Talents:

Celerity: The worst talent of the three.

Tiger's Lust: An obvious choice, offers more to your team, and yourself.

Momentum: Better than Celerity but worse than Tiger's Lust.

Abilities:

Jab: Use to generate Chi.

Tiger Palm: Keep applied to yourself.

Blackout Kick: Use when you have 2 chi.

Fists of Fury: Use when available.

Detox: Use to dispel rogue crippling poison.

Provoke: Use to keep rogues/druids in combat

Positioning:

Positioning is key to playing Windwalker Monk to it's full potential. Windwalker monk isn't exactly a very independent class. It's not like a rogue or feral where you can just stealth in and kill an EFC (enemy flag carrier) alone. It's heavily reliant upon your team. As a Windwalker Monk you should always be with your team. You have a ton of utility to offer to your teammates, be sure to use it. Detoxing crippling poisons, off-healing when needed, peeling for your healers. You need your team, your team needs you. Take this into consideration.

Mods please move this to the correct section, this place is getting very polluted with veteran guides/threads.

Nice. But why blackwolf bracers over bands of serra'kis? and how much better than crit is versatility really? crit affects elemental force, I'm not sure if versatility affects elemental force.

would bands of serra'kis also work? it scales 7 stam 7 agility. enchant it with +1 AGILITY and...

would the BiS also be the agility heirloom staff? my WW does about 20 more damage with it

1% Versatility grants a 1% increase to your damage, healing, and absorbs, and reduces the damage you take by 0.5%. Yes it helps with EF. What it does not help with is %based heals.

DW vs 2hander is about the same for windwalker however you can get an extra enchant duel wielding making it better

gnome is super strong for monk 1 min CD escape artist + lust its hard to lock you down with slows/roots also allows lust to be used on teammates without having to worry about being slowed yourself... the bonus dps trinket/agm from human isnt strong as it was since theres no super strong dps trinkets and boa pvp trinket gives stam now... pls come back to 19s <3
