Paladins (mostly discussion about holy) in 6.1

I'm not sure how many of you have touched base with holy paladin yet, but those of you who have, I just wanna know your opinion on them. Not gonna lie, this is a bit of a ranting thread because I'm pretty frustrated with my favorite class currently, and here's why. (This is NOT a thread bitching that my class is "bad" or "too good", but a thread explaining how inconsistent I feel like it is.)

First of all, I started off this patch with trying out ret for a game of WSG, and it was pretty good. Absolutely great off-heals, pretty good damage and also fairly decent mobility. Then I decided to go back holy and see how the patch changes were treating it. My frustration comes from the comparison of these 2 specs.

After playing a few games of holy, I really felt as if I was doing much less healing than I was as ret, but my dps ability is either equal, depending on how try hard I actually would go on damage, or better than ret. For someone who doesn't primarily have an aggressive playstyle while playing healer, it's pretty obvious as to why I'm really annoyed.

For those of you who don't know, Denounce is a spammable, zero mana cost, 1.5 cast time with no haste damage ability for holy paladins only that currently got a 50% buff in damage. Necessary? In my opinion it definitely wasn't, but we all know that blizzard only really looks to balance endgame anymore. Anyways, with this buff, Denounce hits for 250-300 non crit, and ~500 crit, which I find to be absolutely insane as a healer. (Not quite on the level as ferocious bite for resto druids.)

Holy paladin healing is pretty lacking in comparison to the "top" healer classes in this bracket, but I never realized how much they actually were lacking in that department until I saw how easy it was for me to top people off as ret. I know people complained about how much rets were healing in the beginning of WoD, and even after the nerf, it's still really strong. Once again, something I never really paid attention to until I actually played it for myself, however now that I actually have played it, I just find it to be absurdly annoying.

/end rant basically.

So in conclusion, I know the patch came out just yesterday so I don't expect many people to have as strong of an opinion about paladins as me (because let's be honest, who even plays this class anymore), but let me know what you guys think.

disc priest is the king of heals atm . pull just under 600 k in an atv by just spamming my bubble and penance . shaman is very strong as well .

paladin and druid are definitely on the lower tier as far as raw healing ability goes though . i find these classes you basically have to play like a dps if you want any kind of meaning effect in a bg. believe it or not with mf and form shifting you can top damage as a resto druid and maybe toss a swift mend here or there. paladins are a bit more on the utility side as you have your stun and crit cancel, bubble, and o shit on hands.

over all paladins still have a place its just you need to play more of a team focus. a denounce + holy shock at the moment can be a lot of damage and help drop a healer into execute range or what ever. you stun can mean a kill as well
cleanses are bis on hpally with spriests still lurking everywhere and plenty of cc to go around.

i guess if you want to find it enjoyable at the end of the bg , look at how much u helped ur team , rather than the healing number .

I feel for you. WoD ruined f2p druid for me aswell, it's just not really fun anymore. In mop there was 4 specs; 2 for damage, 1 for heals, 1 for fcing. Now there's 4 specs for DPSing. Lame as hell...

Wrath hits for 450 non crit in bgs.

Time to make a haste set >:3

Yeah I suppose you're right. I mean pre 6.1 I'd still denounce people that can deal mean crit damage, but for the sole purpose of the debuff it gives, or if there's not a heavy amount of damage going out I'd use it as a filler spell sorta. And yeah I've come to the conclusion awhile ago that holy paladin was more of a support healer, and I was okay with that. I just feel like the damage buff to denounce wasn't really necessary. I mean ffs, I got solo'd on my mage by a paladin who let a few people die at a LM team fight because he was tunnel denounce spamming me.

Yeah, I mean holy paladin damage still isn't really considered OP since there's ways to avoid it (interrupting, LoS, etc.) as for druid damage it kinda just comes out of no where.

Holy in comparison is kinda dead for f2ps atm. Sure its still fun to play and you can achieve something but in a Wargame or Arena no one would pick Holys over any other healer.
Keeping denounce up is near impossible since you are forced to heal nonstop with these crappy heals. Hammer for offence or pressure is long gone since you need it to defend yourself and without any kind of dot you have lots of fun vs. ferals nowadays.
Keep playing if you like it but keep your options open. Now its easier than ever:

You want the niche-healer Metroid-style?? Kamehame-stweaver .
You wanna top BG-Charts? Disc-O-Time.
You wanna outheal 29 BMs in Arena? Shaman can roast some marshmallows over his Totem while doing it.
You wanna FC + Heal-dmg and still be an adorable Kitty? /purr

i got a full haste set on my holy pally... i can cast 1.29 sec denounces for 248 damage each... Definitely out damages my fire mage hit for hit.

I feel for this. With the new PvP loom stats I might stack haste and go holy. Haven't decided if I'm gonna upgrade to get the vet enchant benefits but I have tested it out holy and it is pretty decent damage wise. I don't plan to main it but I'm gonna use it as a support class because we all know how life saving that denounce buff is especially if you are able to deploy them many times with haste. The healing is a bit dull but now that ret heals got nerfed i see not much difference. Luckily I made all the right choices and I'm BiS for all my specs :)

Just on the flip side (and I do understand your frustration); I made my 29 holy paladin (Shoackadin) for 6.1 knowing these changes were coming into play and that it would do sick dmg =). Really enjoying it to be honest.

Holy paladins need love at all levels and the buff that is needed is either instant WOG or a buff to flash heal. I don't see it happening though, or not to a degree that will sort healing in this bracket. This is due to end game paladins vary wide ranging Utility. 2x sac/freedom/bop is just amazing in end game raids (remember this is what the game is balanced around). So don't hold your breath.

If you want to play a defensive healer I would Suggest MW monk, it's not strong by any means, but the healing style is the most fun and varied and it's not weak like rdruid. In terms of healing defensively you will enjoy MW over the other classes.

heh just stack haste and spellpower and replace trinkets with 2x swift hand of justice... never mind about being stunned how much damage can they do to you in 8 seconds? just heal back up after stun

Actually loving Hpal right now, yes Holy Shock shouldn't really be used as a heal now so you have to hardcast every heal but i'm quite enjoying myself playing a support healer in bgs/arenas.

We need to STOP comparing holy to other healers. Maybe look at it from a support-spec perspective. Not a healer with bad heals. BUT a offensive DPS debuffing machine with decent offheals :) and of course hard to kill with its cleanse and bubble and most importantly that CC that favors all :) Another idea I'm having is a holy FC you can reach decent HP in BGs with a nice stam set. They were mail so hard to kill and of course I already know people are gonna compare them to other forms of tank specs and yes holy will have the least defensive & speed but what I feel balances it out is the healing and maybe throwing down that denounce debuff when enemies are on your ass and you can't kite or juke!

I wasn't expecting so much input from all of you tbh, I really appreciate it.

And I went full haste on my holy paladin as well (minus the trinket, but I might switch to it) and I definitely think it's the best gear option for holy as of right now. Like I said earlier, I was okay with holy being more of a support role in WoD, I'm just really salty about what they're turning into (tbt to cata). Despite that, I'm still not sure if I'd play another healer. I have a nearly finished MW monk, but they're incredibly difficult to play when you're against rogues, feral druids and brew monks. I'd like to play another healer, but I wouldn't have much fun rolling a scum of the earth class.

How so? Feral I understand due to dead within a stun, but BM/rogue should cause absolutely no problems. That is unless the rogue is p2p and owns half a brain. Don't see anything wrong in playing mw monk anyways, it's not like it's nearly on the same level of retardedness as a feral.
