29 War Games Cross Realm Sign Ups Tool

Atherburst

Grandfathered
Hi All,

I've been working on a tool that I'm hoping will help us generate additional War Game opportunities in the 20-29 bracket. We've been running War Games fairly frequently in the last few weeks (Horde), however there's quite a bit of inefficiency when it comes to actually forming the teams due to balance and who's linked together via battle tag across realms.

Take a second and watch this video where I explain how the tool works.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1L_L4Iurog&feature=youtu.be

What I'm proposing:
1) A schedule featuring nightly war games is constructed. Player's can sign up for any and all nights.
2) Player's attendance and performance is tracked to help construct teams of people that actually show up and to balance teams.

Goals:
1) Increase War Game frequency drastically by integrating all realms through battle tag centralization (could even get multiple groups of 20 going at once)
2) Increase game quality with team/class/spec balancing algorithms
3) Drastically reduce time between games

Other benefits:
I'm happy to open source this tool if it gets traction so the other brackets can use it.

If you think this is something you'd like to see happen let me know and I'll see if I can work with some of the Departure Lounge leaders to get something going hopefully. Also, if you have any feedback let me know.

Thanks

Great idea! Thanks for the effort.

There are a few concerns. I am not sure how well value score will translate into player skill, class strength and role.

When we ran wargames in MoP, deciding on teams wasn't the time consuming part. People going afk and not getting in teamspeak to communicate were the biggest timewasters.

Wargames are not super serious when it comes to the outcome of the games; but it's been frustrating trying to lead wargame groups with too much chatter going on. If that's the way DPL wants to go about wargames, that's fine, I just won't be helping to organize them.

Value Score is more of a final sorting measure. Attendance, class and spec all come first when balancing teams. It won't come into play much I don't think unless we want it to.

I'd agree with the teamspeak/afk crap and I've only been here a few weeks. Attendance would be a function a) having XP already turned on, b) being in TS at the start time, and c) not going AFK for extended periods of time, and d) actually showing up. If you don't meet those criteria, you don't get your attendance point which lowers your attendance score, putting in as a lower priority candidate for war games.

I think this tool can help reduce chatter since there will be less arguing. The tool manager decides the teams, and that's the end of it.

Firstly, this is awesome ather.

To be honest "drunken bgs" being the times that DL gets the most on, means there is a bit more herding cats than you'd expect. Not sure how much I love or hate it... It's entertaining but people get very chatty and not particularly serious.

That said, the wargames ive been in were closer than any pug game since i came back, regardless.

Is there going to be one or a few people who would be administrators of the document?

I'd like to see this be more hands off on the data gathering side.

Back in Wrath, Meed made an addon that converted scoreboard data into a viewable format on a rudimentary website. He didn't know how to code well, and never opened up the source. Sadly nobody managed to save a copy of the addon thru various hard drive reformats etc.

If some of that data could be automatically ripped from the scoreboard, it would reduce administrative effort. After the game, the administrator could check a box saying yes, they signed up, that they were willing to change role, whatever.

I'll need some support from more prominent members of the community to get people to sign up.
What I'd like to do is schedule one or two war games, I'll moderate and confirm the tool is working correctly, then I'll save it in a cloud somewhere to share with major members of the community.

This is amazing, I really hope we can get this going on both EU and US. Would make everything so much better!

Just wanted to keep this visible since I'll be setting up some cross-realm war games soon to test the functionality of this. There are more than enough active 29s to get this going.

The attendance stat should be given only for people who show up on time, are able to communicate immediately in TS or chat to questions/readycheck, and stay for the entirety of war games that night. Turnover and afking are the biggest culprits of wasted time. There should be a bonus for switching roles when requested to.

This is the plan. On top of this players must also already have XP turned on. I'll be outlining all of this in the invite both on the forums and sign up page.
