How does music make you feel from a Physical and Mental aspect?

  • Music is a very powerful driving force, it can shape our very lives for the better and for the worse. How does music feel to you? What type of energy does it give you?

For me personally; music allows for me to get the most out of what I'm doing, performance wise it greatly increases my focus and enjoyment of something.

    What about yourselves?

My use of music is very situational.

I cant stand listening to anything when I am studying or doing school work; total silence is my key to academic success.

However, when I get on WoW and I am feeling like some crazy PvP, music away! Sometimes I feel like what I do depends on the beat of the song that is playing. When I die from the result of it, I then get bummed out because the intense music is still beating away but I am sitting dead at the GY. :p

Although, I have noticed that when I am playing BF4 I cant stand music because I cant hear the footsteps of someone creeping up behind me!

Now what's the psychology behind all this? Could it be that since you are constantly exposed to a stimulus, your brain is much more aware of what is going on, allowing faster functions and maybe more cognitive activity? Leading to possibly better performance (work, studying, gaming, etc)?

Fun stuff to think about :p

I'm surprised so many people play music during BGs, there are so many sound effects that clue you in on what is going on in-game. Especially electronic music... was that a synthesizer or a rogue sneaking behind me?

Sometimes the in-game music adds to the immersion, maybe not so much with WOW these days (still some epic tracks) but I've heard some game soundtracks played outside the game and it sends me back in time.

Outside of gaming, the right music at the right time can lead you to a state of ecstasy.

No, not that kind of ecstasy:

    Drugs bad, music good.

Music for me is a way to connect to people, I love listening to music aswell as I love making music. I listen to pretty much every genre (except today's effortless mainstream shit, and yes I know it's opinionated)

I both sing and play the guitar so music for me is a very important part of my life.

Some scenarios where I listen to different genres:

    - in durotar chilling and duelling, or just chit chatting:

    - BG/Arena would be something like:

    - In PvE encounters (raids etc) I'd preffer listening to something like:

Physically: Can give an adrenaline rush, especially during physical activity. Can give frission. Can keep me "in flow" or take me out of it.

Emotionally: Any emotion can be invoked, depending on music. There's all kind of good music in every genre, and I prefer certain music depending on my mood.
