  • Hello there, I hope the thread doesn't get deleted!
    So... I am doing a project which requires me to look for a lot of images of art during certain periods.
    But it has been a bit difficult and yes, I am kind of desperate, so I am asking for your help in case you know of any website,
    electronic book, or anything.. gallery (?)

    I don't know... it's for educational purposes only.

    The stuff I need to look for is:
    Paintings
    Sculptures
    Architecture
    Decoration (furniture, jewelry, etc)
    Engravings and Literature

    And I am having trouble finding stuff of art in the following periods:
    -centuries 0-4 A.D. (in Europe)
    -Paleochristian
    -Obscurantism and barbaric invasions (Europe too!)
    -Carolingian
    -Feudalism

    Any art specialist? art collector? person with extraordinary online searching skills? anyone with a kind heart? ;____;
    Thanks in advance!!!

    Back when I was in school I used Artstor in one of my classes, which seems like it'd be pretty helpful. It's a huge database of art of various types and periods... unfortunately you need to be a subscriber, or be able to log in through your institution somehow (I know I had to use my university's library system to get in). It might be worth checking out to see if your school has access. Good luck!

    Wow, that sounds like HUGE project.

    There are few things on that list that don't seem right or there are different terms that might be helpful e.g.

    paleochristian -> early Christian
    feudalism -> medieval

    I thought Obscurantism was a philosophical term.... anyway

    The thematic essays on the Met site might be a good place to start e.g. Carolingian Art | Thematic Essay | Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History | The Metropolitan Museum of Art

    And searching the Met online collections might give to some good examples of actual pieces.

    I have a PDF of this that might be helpful, but it's huge ~500MB for 2 PDFs. Volume 1 goes up to 14th century so maybe could upload this to a file sharing site if you don't already have access to this via university library.

    Good luck!

    Thanks for the info :O.. I'm interested in that PDF.. but how could I get it? :O Checked on the library at my university and it's not there :s.. We don't really have access to lots of books in english here :s
    And yea, it's kinda bigish... I just wrote down the periods I am having trouble with, but I have to look up for about 1000 images from year 0 to 1950 or so.. :s :S

    It's hurts having that resource so close but at the same time so far away..
    Apparently my school is registered, but it doesn't show up when I try to get in. So I can't look at it.
    I really don't think it'll be any different at my school, 'cause the wifi is really bad and we hardly ever get connection :(((
    Thanks anyways.. that source seemed too good to be that easy x).. *cry*

    I never had to do anything thing like that. My projects had to go into detail on one particular subject - to this day I could give you a minor dissertation on the development of post-impressionist landscapes.

    PM'd you.
