  • Hold the phone, y'all. World PvP may just have gotten a LOT more interesting.

Source: Convert To Raid Podcast #158 with Developer Holinka

[1:07:50] Holinka "...[Gear] has this second iLevel that activates whenever you're in an arena, when you're in a battleground or in Ashran, or if a player out in the world engages you in PvP, that gear all of a sudden switches to that higher iLevel."

Let's please test this and verify this, and see how high it scales i,e, whether it's dependent on the level of the person who engages us.

EDIT: Tested, false! Sorry for the hype...

That's very intriguing. But That's where scaling somewhat crosses the line. It's a cool feature for bgs. But I like murdering players that are higher lvl than me and getting that satisfaction. It's world pvp, if a player is aware that hes under leveled and might get his ass kicked, that's up to him what server to role, or to be flagged/unflagged.

I mean if you don't want your ass kicked, gear up or lvl up. One of the perks for being a higher level.

level 100 gear has two different ilvls, one is significantly higher than the other. Upon pvp combat, your 620 ilvl gloves bump up to it's second ilvl, 675. This doesn't affect f2ps, because our gear doesn't have two ilvls.

Last I heard of this (which was a while ago) this scaling was to alter the perceived unbalance between PvE and PvP gear at end game (for PvP). It'll be interesting to see if low levels are covered.

Are we sure about that? Because when I look at my gear in a battleground, I see two iLevels... its battleground ilvl and its regular one.

world pvp needs to be checked for 20-29, but in theory wouldn't it also change in a friendly duel or no? if that was true.

Primal Gladiator's Battle Staff - Item - World of Warcraft see the 660(690 PvP) in the ilvl? That's what the tweet is talking about.

yes that's it, i guess that this scaling is only available to the expension pvp items you get lvl 100,

because if you check other pve items they don't have that double "660(690 PvP)" thingie.:
Weapons - Items - World of Warcraft

And according to this item Brov linked, it seems to be the opposite way, rather downscaling pvp items to make them less effective in pve.

http://www.wowhead.com/item=111122/primal-gladiators-battle-staff is a pvp item, and when you use it in pve, its level goes from 690 to 660.

Sorry guys, I tested this for about an hour in Ashenvale on a PvP server. Gear does not scale in world PvP.

Yes it makes sense, it takes a lot of time to rebalance all the items for scaling ; they only did it for the warlords items, since 95% of the players are on this at the moment.
