What happened to twinking?

Everytime a new expansion comes out, i always here people saying phrases like "whats the best bracket now, i wanna level my twink", but people wont re roll them as if they dont think their twinks hold any value? its a little confusing, when i used to twink alot in TBC, the worst thing to do was to level your twink, and it seems now its just twinking in a certain bracket with your character maybe temporary depending on which way the wind blows with Blizzard.

For instance, I have a level 39 twink, but im not going to level him to 40-49 just because ques dont pop, it would be a waste of time and effort spent on that twink if I did that. I know people have the free will to do whatever, and I understand that completely, but it just seems to be popping up frequently and I wonder why people would just use their twinks to jump brackets for FOTM purposes or to play bg's until their toon gets nerfed then delete them entirely. It just seems that maybe we are drifting off onto a pattern where we now dream of having battleground pops, and when they dont take off like they used to, we tend to start abandoning brackets leaving them in the dust.

Even though Bg's dont pop, there are still a lot of things to do with your twink, like raiding westfall or redridge, trying to get BiS, or even making videos of killing level 60 bosses as a level 30 or something. It just seems that we hold little value to our twink characters because we dont want to be nerfed, yet there is no way to avoid it unless you level your twink, or reroll.

For one it used to be very difficult to make a twink, gold was hard to come by and there were no BoA's and leveling took longer.

Back then due to the ability to queue into levelers twinking was more popular for all kinds of reasons but mostly because it was fun to 1 shot people. Thus the reason why the 20-24 bracket was so damn popular in MOP.

Sadly, the exp-off only BGs (while I feel are a good thing) are what killed twinking in general. I would never 'waste' a character slot on a 39, 49, 69 etc because i'd never get to use it for its purpose: PVP.

I do have a 85, but the only reason I had one was the insanely broken scaling of MOP blues that were expensive and in a way the character was my gold-sink for fun. Soloing level 85 raids or 90 dungeons with extreme speed or killing level 90 players with my 85 in crazy short periods was a lot of fun for me which has sadly been broken by Blizzards updates. Due to this i'll probably and regretfully be leveling my 85 twinks too.


Overall I think the reason why people level out their twinks is really because the twink is gathering dust .

Why people level old twinks to other twink brackets?

I have no clue, other people have asked me why I DIDNT level my 60 warrior to 70, but instead made a new 70. To me that was logical. I twinked at 60 so he's staying 60, then I can use it whatever I want and I'll have a seperate 70 (same class) for twinking at 70.

I'd tend to agree with you - but if you don't have GF"d stuff, it's too easy to just make new twinks for most people to care.

This and the ability to ship BoAs. Well and all BoAs themselves. What makes a twink now are basically your accessory slots (neck, back, hands, feet, rings). All the rest of the slot are filled by BoAs that get shipped around. You can't even hardly armory people anymore because of this. It's a double edged sword-way easier to gear and be where you want to be, at the cost of the individual toon's identity.

Many people think that f2ps twinking is closer old school twinking than anything else right now. F2ps been doing it the hard way since 2011.

I have only leveled 2 of my most precious twinks in my time on WoW.

One of them was my gf'd level 1 rogue with Marshalling Point (in Cata) who is now my 24 (went to 19 first). I never play that toon anymore, so I always regret my decision in leveling it.
The second twink I leveled was my 80 priest whom many people on my server cherished because he was known to rep old content pve activity. The reason I leveled him was because he was one of my favourite toons to play (heck, I got Brutal gear on him with Arena Points when he was a 70 twink in WotLK, rocked that shit out with PRIDE), but there was just nothing to do at level 80. Pre-ordered WoD and a few mins later im level 90 and in line to get a nice (weak) pvp title. I dont regret it as much because I actually have fun on him

Now I am having the same dilemma with my 70 rogue, but for level 85. Those legendary daggers are hard to resist, lets just put it like that

Oh yeah, I remember you telling me one time u leveled your rogue with marshaling point, I never knew he was a level one twink tho lol and about your level 80,tuch, that's still a nice character. I remembered seeing you on him every once Ina while when he was level 80.

I do remember leveling my 70 dk in WOTLK due to someone hacking my acc and using it as an mining bot, so when he got to level 74, I got my acc back, leveled to 80 b4 cataclysm and twinking him at the beginning of cata ever since. I still have most of my old 70 helm enchants and what not, but I'm glad he is sitting with xp off in the 85 bracket.

I have multiple GF'd toons in every bracket - I play my F2P because it's just way more like real twinking for me. Yes, I could get on one of my 3 fully GF'd 29s and rock people but that's not fun. Actually, hell, I don't even know if any of that GF'd shit is even good because of BoA's. /frustrating
