Sponsor's Avoidance [Video]

  • Its that time of year again! Its the moment when I have more time in my hands than I know what to do with! (Noooo, not another video!)

First off the bat I would like to explain the term "avoidance" to those less familiar. It is your amount of Dodge % combined with your Parry % (and Block %, but I have none). In the case of this video, the build I have gives me 44 % Dodge and 62% Parry, giving me a total of 106% Avoidance. This means that 106% of the times you melee hit me, it will be avoided.

Many of you have (sadly) witnessed my deadly avoidance set first hand, some others might have seen me trolling level 10 rogues with it, and some others might not care. In this video, I took it as a challenge to see how far my avoidance set could be pushed to. I go in a chronological order, starting from lowbies and working my way up to level 90. Yes, level 90s. Why not go up against the biggest fish in the ocean!

The idea is simple. I stand there, you try to hit me. Lets see how this wraps up!

    Have fun!

Great job sponsor! All that avoidance on a 10 twink warr is bad azz.

Thanks guys, it means a lot to me! I am very glad to see that all the time I spent making the video and getting the footage was well worth it!

Figured I'd imprint my avoidance set into the twinking world since this most likely will never happen again after WoD...

I wouldent say avoidance would be useless in WoD sponsor, remember, hit is being removed and the other stats pertaining to hit are being converted anyways :)' so I reckon the chances of people hitting you would be more difficult. It would actually make more sense to have an avoidance set come WoD anyways due to hit removal haha.

Oh true that, I got confused... Well I guess we'll see what happens, its not like my avoidance set is going anywhere!

That's not exactly how percentages work. You can't just add two percentages together like that. ^^
    44% dodge = 56% hit chance, 62% parry = 38% hit chance.
    0,38 * 0,56 = 0,2128 = 21,38%
Each melee attack has 21,38% chance to hit you, which puts your effective avoidance (against melees with no expertise) on 78,62%
Think of it like this: each melee hit has to go through your dodge and your parry separately, so you have to calculate the probability of a hit going through your 44% dodge, and then after that going through your 62% parry.

So you are telling me based on your calculations that 1/4 of their attacks should hit me? But they never do hit me. Doesnt make sense... I dont think your reasoning is right so I am keeping the version of calculating avoidance that everyone else uses...

    Wot??

I don't usually like ten Twinking coz I think it's a load of crap but that was extremely entertaining to watch :)

No, 78,62% is closer to 1/5 than 1/4.

I don't know if we watched the same video, but in the one I watched you were clearly getting hit. If you had 106% avoidance you would not be getting hit at all. Except by targets with expertise. I doubt any of the non-90s in the video had any expertise on their gear. Every single person in the video landed hits on you, except a few where you only showed like 2-3 dodge/parries.

I understand why you might think that it is calculated like that since you do see me getting hit. I have no idea how it is calculated but their seems to be an arithmetic degradation behind my avoidance when fighting much higher level opponents. For instance, when I am playing the 28 rogue he never hit me (even off footage he was never able to hit me) so my 106% avoidance seems to work, but when I duel those 30s+ my avoidance starts to degrade. In those cases I can understand how your calculations could come in to explain why I am actually getting hit, even though I have a 106% avoidance. Then the next question would be at what level does my opponent break the 106% avoidance?

Thank you!! I figured making another plain old boring exp on BG, or some typical world pvp footage with 90s ruining everything would just not be as entertaining as this!!

My next step would be to try to convert you into less hating 10s now that I have got your attention!
