So I had a thought today: the large majority of the problems with classic/tbc raiding is the overpowered nature of the current available skill set, but I realized that there's a very easy way to avoid the overpowered nature of your character: play without choosing a class specialization.
This has a few interesting effects on playstyle:
- heals are much weaker
- overpowered dps abilities don't exist
- mana regen is less
- tool sets are more limited and resemble more closely what was available during the day
- dps is far, far less
So how does this extend to applicable raiding?
Well, the next time you raid classic or tbc content with other twinks, simply raid with no spec. You can have talents, glyphs, professions, etc. Just no spec.
Yes, your toolsets become quite small and it might seem like it would be boring, but the thing this does is it brings back certain characteristics that those bosses were tuned around:
1) Tanks do far less dps and don't get stupid threat through vengeance.
2) Healers have smaller spell sets and will have to conserve mana a lot more.
3) DPS don't have access to stupidly overpowered specialization abilities and will do much closer dps to what they did in the day.
4) Healer rotations might become necessary since in combat mana regeneration abilities will be gone.
5) There might be some logistical issues like tanks having threat issues, but that's part of the challenge instilled by going without talents.
What does the twinking community at large think of something like this? Have you tried it in some capacity or have a reason why it wouldn't work logistically?
