Tell me why its not viable, scorch is not a viable counter nor is crit when it can get to 40% respectively.

It is viable. It's just that frost and arcane are better due to more damage output, more reliable burst and better instants.

Fire lacks mobility and has long casts. There's really no benefit to it. Of course, you'll do fine against the f2p's that you generally face.

Either way,, I'd not be happy to stand around hoping for insta pyroblast procs, then trying to set up shatters while the proc is still up without a pet nova. Point being, the spec is clearly inferior to other mage specs.

true but getting those pyro procs make it worth playing even tho the spec overall is dog.

scorch doesnt exist. you get fireball, pyro blast, inferno blast(<-- this is how you get instant pyros regardless of what your crit is) and honestly just as the rest said its inferior to the other two specs. Frost>Arcane>Fire and its mainly cause arcane can just hold stacks and do ABSURD damage, frost's damage is just over the top no comparison since icelance buff, fastest output with no ramp up time, makes playing fire just a chore with less benefit for your effort trustme i like fire and still go do a ab or 2 here and there as it but its not good compared to the other two. having to use icelance to have optimal dps as fire kinda takes away from the spec and shows why frost is superior

edit: its definately not unviable though, the way mages kit is to begin with at 24 makes it viable as any spec. counterspell + blink + potentially high damage when you choose to use it always works when everyones bad at handling it (f2ps, and generally bad 24s for most part)

a good way to look at it is how if you get a FoF proc as frost mage, your icelance will be higher damage than if you lined up a pyro proc. FoF requires nothing but single damaging cast to occur though, pyro proc will require a crit + your inferno blast and still do less damage with pyro because of the fact it isn't going to reliably crit, and if you gotta run in and nova then you just see the whole point of why its bad compared to arc and frost

It's like enhance against elemental, you can do stuff, but just not as good as elemental (or in this case, fire)
