Wow future F2P Model, not going to happen: Totalbiscuit Podcast, Blizzcon 2013 Infos

Re: Wow future F2P Model, not going to happen: Totalbiscuit Podcast, Blizzcon 2013 In

WoW won't be F2P ever, not even when they are on their last legs. And I respect them for that. I thought this would be about F2P trial wow :(

Meh, i really don't want to go entirely f2p. I just want vanilla content or at least a step-in to 39 or 40 :c

No reason, i just wanna have that. I can see a crapload of possibilities for the f2p community, but really, no profit for blizz doing that, so it'll prolly never happen :(

I would like to see all of vanilla go f2p. I would definitely make an account 4 my son at some point if they did that. It would be cool if they did that and just added some micro transaction things for f2p accounts like unlocking pet battles and professions.

The higher we get the more likely we are to subscribe.

I'm not sure if this statement came out as intended, but it is correct in its own way.

Lol, "World of Warcraft not built to be a free-to-play". Maybe they need to put some of that fancy connected realms "technology" on it.

Blizzard might have well have just said, "not currently being forced by financial circumstances to go f2p, for now."

They will never go F2P. They will probably rather let the game die. Because if they do it, they will definitely bleed subscriptions like crazy, no ifs ands, or buts. The people who would be incoming to get into F2P wouldn't be able to even staunch the wound. At best they would be left with maybe 3mil players total. This is all speculation of course. But I'm not sure anyone realizes how terrible the backlash would be if something like that were to happen. RIFT went F2P, and it was and still is pretty fucking successful. I'm sure they have quite a bit less players than when they started, but if they are continuing to push out content, I'd call it a minor victory. SWTOR didn't get so lucky with their conversion, and are suffering for it, milking money out of the few players they have left. If I had to guess, WoW COULD probably sit somewhere between SWTOR and RIFT. But like I said, all speculation. I really hope it doesn't become true.

Correction: They will lose customers entirely, from that. They would barely be able to make a steady profit after F2P from their store.

You can have a f2p model and a sub at the same time, a f2p just buy what he needs and a sub gets most the available options plus bonusses.

This. Rift has f2p with subs, and they have more players than ever.

Thats true. However very few MMOS similar to WoW can hold on for very long. There's always something missing for the Playerbase, and they eventually go back to where they came from. I'm not sure how many subs or accounts F2P wow might bring in, but I'm fairly certain it wouldn't be enough to stem the tide of people leaving because they believe when a game goes F2P, or partially, as RIFT has, it is the end. RIFT does so ridiculously well because their F2P model is hands down THE BEST on the market. nothing from the RIFT store is P2W and none of the content is behind a paywall. Shit, if WOW could pull that off, they could keep their heads above water for awhile yet.
