Mage, viable?

Hello, in cata i enjoyed playing my 70 twink mage, but i heard that the 70 bracket is pretty bad right now, with prot palas and hybrid classes all over the place.

So i was wondering, is mage viable at any level, from 80-89? I am only interested in arena, so please keep this in mind.
I havent played the game for a while (since cata) so some feedback would be great, i will appriciate it.
Are arenas even active at 80-89?

Fire mage is viable at 82 and 85/87, frost mage at 84 and 87.
Atm my twink mage is sitting at almost 2.2k at 87 with engineering and tailoring.
But a great tip: if you can make it night elf.

Night elf mage + combat rogue will allow you to stay stealthed longer than most openents.

Very, although far more potent in the 85-89 bracket imo.
