Best tank at 80 (PvE) NO MoP items

Our guild is currently deciding between the choices of tanks we have. We all have valid arguments of which tank could perform the best from everything of solo tanking, doing the most dps, so self healing & just worrying about themselves to the point where the healer isn't necessary or is only needed to heal those that actually need it.

We currently run with a blood dk & a prot pally who plays a mage when we don't need him (Myself). As I said we want to basically minimize this to one tank who can worry about themselves.


Which tank can perform this with NO MOP GEAR since it can get pretty pricey and stat inflation with cataclysm gear is pretty good anyways.

The reason I state this in cataclysm gear is because we're running with a group of 5 people and with 'on-par' gear its fairly difficult to meet enrage timers unless you class stack.

I'd suggest using the Pally tank since they scale better with vengeance than DKs and avoidance proccing Grand Crusader is ridiculous. Neither would be bad though, they both have their strengths.

I haven't changed the gems at all since I put them in early cata. If I were to get around to doing it, I'd definitely get more haste for survivability.

Haven't signed in here recently but I've got a psudeo-order

Survival it's along the lines of this:

Druid=Plate classes (Pally>dk>warrior), not sure on monk (has the potential to be insane though)

For DPS, Pally>dk(because lolorange)>monk>else.

Druids get extremely high armor (cap was removed with 5.4 for some reason, I turn 50k hits into 7k hits thanks to 80ish% reduction, it's fun).

Also, make use of super-optimised enchants (which are largely cata ones, especially the 65 stat enchants on bracer/gloves/cloak). Stamina in the content as any tank is rather trivial, same issue for avoidance stats. You'll easily have enough of everything just by equipping the gear thanks to the ilevel formula changes at the end of wotlk + passives from MoP.

Paladin easily. They can get up to 60% parry, 50% block etc, on top of all those oh shit buttons and self healing.
