Being able to receive mail would make it near-mandatory to have your own paid account in order to send all the best P2P gear, enchants, etc. to your F2P (essentially making them P2P 20s). With chat restrictions still in place, 10g maximum, and no AH access, you wouldn't be able to get much without one.

Sure, it would put trials with access to a paid account on a much closer level to 24s, but what would be the point? If everyone were using a paid account to send P2P gear and enchants to their trial, why wouldn't we all just play 24s instead?
