A Way For F2P To ALMOST complete the Learning the Ropes Pet Battle Quest!

  • From the horde fishing daily fishing quest in Orgrimmar called "A Staggering Effort", ever since 5.3 hit when you finish the quest, it may remain in your Objectives/Quest log in its initial 0/1 Sandy Carp state and even appear to bug other daily quest objectives until you go through a loading screen (If anyone is wondering, I haven't been able to catch more Sandy Carp to turn in multiple times even when my stag eye bait was still active, and you can't get another stag eye).

If you complete this quest while you also have a daily cooking quest from Orgrimmar such as "Everything is Better with Bacon" or "Even Thieves Get Hungry" in your quest book, but haven't collected all the Swine Bellies or Horde Infantry Rations yet, then once you collect one, if you have the the Learning the Ropes quest it will say that you have won as many pet battles as items you have collected for the daily cooking quest and tell you to return to Vazrok in Orgrimmar! But when you return to Vazrok, the "complete" button will still be greyed out.

Once you complete the daily cooking quest, Learning the Ropes will disappear from your quest log (as well as the Darkmoon Faire Pet Battle! quest if you have it), and the daily cooking quest will reappear in it's initial state but it can't be completed again (until tomorrow). Everything goes back to the way it should be once you go through a loading screen (but not if you type in /reload), the pet battle quests will go back to where you left off with them and the daily cooking quest will disappear from your quest log.

What do you guys think? Perhaps there is a way to further this and make the game think you have completed the quest!

Basically, using "Everything is better with bacon" as an example, you are supposed to collect swine bellies from mature swines out in front of Orgrimmar. Due to a bug with the "A Staggering Effort" quest, if you complete it and then start collecting swine bellies for the Everything is Better with Bacon quest right after, you will appear to receive credit for the "Learning the Ropes" quest if you also have it, but you really don't. Even though F2P can receive the "Learning the Ropes" quest, there is no known way for us to complete it because we can't pet battle, but I almost found a way is what I'm saying.

It's not that it almost lets you complete the quest but it gets confused with other (daily?) quests in the quest log. I once completed one of the Stormwind dailies and it removed the pet battle quest (the DMF one) while leaving the cooking/fishing one in the quest log with no means to complete it.

Ok yeah that sounds right but you know what I mean. Although if it got more confused maybe it would have worked. Apparently 5.3 bugged at least one other daily too (do you remember which one it was?), even if a loading screen fixes it. I just tested and the same thing happens if you use "Even Thieves Get Hungry" instead of "Everything is Better with Bacon", so the same thing probably happens to pet battle quests if you use any daily quest in conjunction with "A Staggering Effort" as long as you don't go through a loading screen.

Also Adal, nice mentioning that a P2P can complete it and then let a linked F2P hand it in but I meant pure F2P if I didn't make that clear.

It might be worth testing a bit but I think it's just a visual bug in the quest log while the quest itself (and its completion) is still registered correctly. I eventually abandoned the bugged SW daily and I couldn't retake it but I could retake the DMF daily (even though according to the quest log it wasn't the one I abandoned).

"A Staggering Effort" is the chosen daily again today for what I believe is the 3rd time in a row! The same thing happens with the cooking daily "Careful, This Fruit Bites Back" even if I only collect 1 item for it. What I didn't notice before was that the "Darkmoon Pet Battle!" quest actually "disappears" from your quest log right when you complete "A Staggering Effort", but "Learning the Ropes" doesn't until you complete the cooking daily.

I think you're with with it registering correctly despite the visual being off, so there's not much chance of it working but it's the closest I've seen.
