Games overheating on laptop!

Whenever I play games like GTA 4 on low Graphics it shuts off my laptop and says it's overheating, Though I play wow on high-ultra settings and it runs just fine, Any suggestions. My laptop is an HP Envy M6, It's not a gaming PC, but The guys at best buy said it should run games no problem lol, Any suggestions on what's going?



EDIT: I got GTA 4 back in December lol, and it's been running fine up until april, haven't really dealt with it, until now thanks.

Your computer might not be able to handle it because you're running a lot of background programs, shut all of the non-essential background program/ normal programs and see if it still crashes. Download a program (there are loads out there) that monitors the temperatures of your GPU/CPU/etc, see which of your devices overheats and causes your computer to shut down. It might be that your fan is broken, and it's not cooling properly. Look at your fans and see at what kind of RPM they are functioning (there are free programs to monitor fans aswell). If your fans are functioning fine, and it still overheats, it may be a problem with the socket of your motherboard or with the cards themselves. You might want to bring it by a repair shop, or purchases a "notepal", to cool your computer. Coolermaster has several, fairly cheap models that cool your laptop efficiently: Cooler Master: Mobile.
