Yes - free +15 fire resist!

This question has been brought up before, and answered in the Questions & Answers thread.

Haven't tested whether it scales, but since cat form has 1.00 attack speed no matter what weapon you wear, if it doesn't scale, the staff is better, if it does, both are equally good and it should be just a factor whether you want to transmog this or that.

and
Cat form attack speed and weapon damage is normalized. Weapon speed and top end are irrelevant in cat form. DPS, agility, haste and crit will all affect DPS, but they are they same between to two BoAs. The only difference is the fire resist. There is no reason to get the staff, you're just losing free resist, which is very hard to come by anyways.

i answered this the other day and i was totally full of poo.

IMO, the fire resist isn't a big enough deal to mean anything. For me, it boils down to having more transmorg options with the staff.

Attack Power is 288 with the dredger. it's 274 with the riot stick or GSOJ. i know the riot stick has 2 more DPS than the dredger and 4 more dps than the GSOJ.

if you're going to sacrifice 14 AP for 4 white DPS, then you might as well go with the option that gives you 73 SP... the GSOJ

and the dredger has haste, which gives you very slightly higher weapon DPS due to faster swings.

JMO...

also, how is the Riot Stick even an option, since you'd have to give up the eyepatch to get it?

so you're losing 15 total AGI, (30 AP) and 8 hit for 4 white DPS (and .19% crit)? not worth it to me...

It is incredibly funny when a Druid's damage is measured by Weapon Damage when they use claws and not Staves or Maces. :p
But if weapon damage does increase damage - not been Feral for a while and back then it was all scaled to Attack Power - then I would think the Staff would be best, you will not often be facing a Fire based enemy (Fire Mage/Shaman/Destruction Warlock) as they seem to be the least represented class in the F2P scene, no?

Survival Hunters also say hi.

that extra 8 AGI (16 AP) and 8 hit wins...
Probably just a comparison. Also, what matters is the DPS, as only a fraction of AP is converted to DPS (unless, for ferals, other abilities scale directly with AP and not with DPS, like hunter explosive shot).

In battlegrounds, eyepatch and the BoA mace alone adds up to 16 agility, or 32 AP, [and 15 agi, or 30 AP at level 20] which adds about...
32/14=16/7=2+2/7=about 2.29 DPS [30/14=2+1/7=about 2.14 DPS at level 20],
making the BoA mace+Eyepatch worth a little more than Riot Stick in battlegrounds when the BoA mace scales (meaning mace Weapon Damage and Speed gives about 23 DPS, instead of 21 at level 20).
Not to mention a trivial way to hit-cap with eyepatch+rune, versus (hogger pants)+rune or (worse for glass cannon) drakewing+rune.

At level 20, Riot Staff comes out ahead by [taking into account eyepatch as well]:
(24.7)-(21+2.14)=(24.7)-(23.14)=about 1.5 DPS, or about 7*1.5=10 or 11 agi worth of DPS.
[Assuming my quick theorycraft numbers and estimations are consistent with live].

Oh, and 15 agi also adds about 1.5% crit chance at level 20 (1 agi=.1% crit at level 20), if one believes it matters.

Riot Stick is the best option because the weapon damage modifies to the equivalent of 30ish agility. That makes it more desirable over Eyepatch / Loom, you can still easily attain hitcap in other slots via BoAs.

Initially I thought you'd have to be stupid to choose riot stick over eyepatch. Sure enough as stated ^ it's actually more than viable.

Checking on my decently geared lvl20 feral druid in cat form: (Bearing in mind the value of each stat such as crit changes depending on how much of that stat you already have).

Each point of agility in cat form gives:
~0.07% crit
~0.1% dodge
~0.14 dps

And for every 1dps provided by your weapon, in cat form you get:
~1.85 dps

------------> Eyepatch + heirloom mace at level 20 in cat form:
+2.3% crit
+1.5% dodge
+1.7% haste
+41 dps
+220 health

------------> LFH + Riot stick at level 20 in cat form: (Giving benefit of the doubt you can get LFH and can hit cap by heirloom chest and trinket.
+2.48% crit
+45.7 dps
+260 health

So Riot stick is definitely good.

Of course in scaled BG's I would say that heirloom mace and eyepatch are easily as viable as riot stick +LFH.

thanks for the math.

how much hit do you need to get to spell hit cap? 26? attainable without eyepatch?

missing with roots can be game-changing.

Dunno if roots are bugged but cap should be 15 points for bgs and 12 for arenas. If it is bugged it is 26% which is almost unreachable.

Sorry to keep harping on this, but we aren't lvl 20 in BGs. the BOAs scale up to 23 DPS in BGs. Yes. Riot stick has 24. And 3 more crit than the dredger.

I'm too buzzed to math out the DPS of Dredger + eyepatch at 24, but I'm guessing it's pretty competitive.

GSoJ has 12 stam, PLUS 8 resil (MORE effective health), 8 hit and 48 Spell Power.

The hit on GSoJ frees up the WSG trink slot for AGM.

To ME(!) there is NO WAY that the Riot Stick can be the best option.

DPS isn't everything.

Well riot + lfh is way sexier.
Its bis in arenas
and even tho its not best in bgs its still very good and ^^

Since I am atm only concerned with bg's to me the lava Dredger(up-scaled) + Eyepatch is the highest dps choice so I am glad I went that route way back when I did. Part of me wishes I would have bought the SOJ over the Dredger b/c then I could play around with resto/boom and not suck. With the nerf to Resilience coming I would think the Justice/DMF chest/shoulders heirlooms with the +hit would be more desirable then the pvp combo with resilience. I as well am curious if the hit bug is live or not because if it is then I definitely will be getting the justice chest/shoulders. Not sure which trinket to get with my honor. If I get the hit from the heirlooms I could drop the wsg trinket for AGM (still have to grind ><) or the Mark of Tyranny.

P.S. Have been slowly building this druid for ~2 years and 49 random daily dungeons and counting completed and the cloak "of the bandit" will not drop, BUGGED?. Created a horde hunter last month and the belt/cloak of the bandit dropped right away.
