Holy Pally Gear

  • I would say 90% of active holy pallies are using [Tattered Dreadmist Mask] [Tattered Dreadmist Leggings] instead of [Mystical Coif of Elements] [Mystical Kilt of Elements].

Basically I want to know why?

I can not see how people choose 8 Haste over 8 Spirit and 186 Armor.
8 haste is .05 seconds quicker of JUST Flash of Light.
186 armor is 3% damage reduction, and 8 spirit is still handy.

When will .05 seconds ever be the make or break, compared to constantly being 3% stronger defense wise.

Same with glove enchant. +16 spellpower > +10 haste

because they die averagely once per game and throw about 150 flash of lights per game

The extra armor only helps vs physical damage, nowadays most dps are casters. On the rare occasion of facing a mostly physical team I switch to my mail set, but for the most part I stick with the cloth boas.

When using +100 mana to chest managing mana shouldn't be a problem, so the spirit isn't a huge deal.
Haste not only lowers the cast time of flash of light but also lowers global cooldowns, and that's one of the reasons i prefer it over +16 spell power to gloves.
Personally I like slighty faster casts and slighty faster global cooldowns (10 haste to gloves) over slightly bigger heals. (16 sp to gloves).

Thanks for the replies guys. Dart, I was actually comparing my gear to your guide and checking all the active pallies when these questions arose haha.

I use 100 hp chest over 100 mana, because I have like 300 lesser mana potions in my bag, and I've yet to OOM with using them.

Do you know how much the GCD is reduced? Are all GCD's reduced with haste? The cast time is only .05 seconds quicker which I still dont value.

Can you give me an example in WSG when you care about the slightly faster gcd and cast. When I play, I dont find myself all out spamming FoL more than a few times a game, and its always efficient enough to keep the person alive. Especially cause its stronger with 16 extra SP :D
Not to mention the 16 sp helps ALL 3 of my heals + my dps spells.

The amount of additional healing you gain from 16sp ends up being overhealing most of the time anyways. People die because you don't heal them quickly enough, not because your heals are too low. Get your first FoL through and the target is safe, unless you get locked out or CC'd.

But the thing is my holy shock does the initial "save" and that benefits from 16 sp. And the FoL thats follows isn't over healed so that benfits too.

And the difference in FoL's is .05 seconds. That is 5% of 1 second. Thats sooooo tiny. The only time that would matter is if my flash of light was just .05 seconds away from casting and "saving", which i dont believe is often.

Holy Shock has a cooldown and it usually only saves the target if it crits, the same goes for WoG. After the HS you will have to wait through the GCD and the FoL cast time, you really want this downtime to be as short as possible.

Also most classes have low enough health to actually get overhealed when you FoL them at 50% which means that your 16sp go to waste while the haste reduces the time you spend on topping off your team.

And as I said before, in situations where you have to cast FoL it is usually about the first heal, it doesn't matter if it heals +-50, it just has to go through before your target dies.

Well I never considered the gcd of HS + The cast time of FoL. So with that you have def convinced me 10 haste > 16 sp for gloves. :p
I still love the armor more though :/ haha

Because of the high mana cost of FOL vs other heals and the amount of times you cast it I would HIGHLY recommend +100 mana to chest vs 100 hp. You WILL oom as a hpally especially if you only have 550 mana. In Mid fights you should always be behind the group so that anyone that decides to pressure you has to over commit and risk death. With solid positioning you dont need to worry about armour unless you decide to fc. You also need to be in combat as much as possible to avoid sap.

In regards to why cloth gear is used over mail. The cloth gear is perfectly itemized vs the mail gear. Haste and crit are the stats that you will want to be stacking the most of since they ultimately increase your healing output more than sp since it scales so awful.

Spirit is generally a useless stat both because of how much you gain from water and how much mana pots give vs the overall mana pool. you should NEVER go out of the way to gain spirit especially over stats like crit and haste.

I already knew most of what you said, but thank you for your response. My argument wasn't so much that haste is low priority, just that its super miniscule of a difference. I know to not gear for spirit too hahaha its just part of the mail gear.
