Systematic guide to Hillsbrad rare farming.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So I was getting tired of being concussive shot spammed in bgs and seeing this comp every other game...

View attachment 1631

So I wanted to finish farming for the last piece I need for my transmog (Defender Boots)

I thought that this would be a good thread to start for those people who want to get a few pieces for their transmog... but get depressed after they see the "2% drop of a rare mob" pop up as the best drop rate on wowhead. This is a systematic guide to farming rares in Hillsbrad, and you can check the loot tables on the mobs to see if they may be worth your farming. This is not a thread to dispute about the best methods of farming transmog gear, this is just one option of doing so.

Our trip starts at the West side of Hillsbrad Foothills, which is easiest to get to as horde by flying from UC to the "Southpoint Gate"

The first mob to kill is Miasmiss
She can be found at this location, and from my experience is up roughly 75% of the time, as most people dont go back to the corner that she is in.
View attachment 1632

The 2nd mob on our trip is Dustwing, to get to her you will be heading south from Miasmiss, to the small island to the South.
She is also up most of the time, as she is sort of hiding in the air and difficult for most people to see who aren't looking for her.
View attachment 1633

The 3rd mob on our trip is Carcinak, to get to him you will be heading East along the shore until you hit a point of green goo seeping into the sea (See screenshot)
This mob seems to be up about half the time I visit, this particular time he was not up.
View attachment 1634

The 4th mob on our trip is Creepthess, who is also kind of a bonus mob for mail users, as she has a slight chance to drop Silver-Linked Footgaurds.
This mob seems to be up a little more that half the time I visit, definatly worth visiting because she s a stones throw away from Carcinak to the North.

The 5th mob on our list is Araga, who seems to be up around 75% of the time, and is easy to spot position wise due to her cubs that are always spawned next to her. She is however a bit of a hike to the North (compared to the others) as you will see on the map.

To be continued next post... (hit the 5 file limit)

The 6th and 7th mob on our list is a throw in, being the low chance of actually seeing them (in my experience you will see them 1/3rd of the time). Those mobs are Weevil and Jimmy the Bleeder.
This time I was able to see and kill Jimmy the Bleeder, but not Weevil. (Mostly due to how trafficked that area is)
This is where Weevil can be found...
View attachment 1637
and then onto Jimmy the Bleeder
View attachment 1638

The 8th mob on our list is Chordix, who is up most of the time because he will be hiding in the water and is uneasy to see for most people not looking for him.
View attachment 1639

The 9th mob on the list is also a semi toss up, he is Cranky Benj, he is only worth keeping an eye out for while you head to the 10th mob. (He will be transversing the river)
View attachment 1640

The 10th mob on our list is Lopex, who can be found just to the East of Chordix.
He is up the majority of the time, but for this run he was not :( .
View attachment 1642

The 11th mob on our list is a interesting one, normally walking through you might not see him because it is a pretty heavily trafficked area, that mob is Ro'Bark, who is easily identifiable as being the largest Gnoll in the field of his location.
He is a bit South of Lopex, and a this run I was able to kill him :) . It is worth noting that the Mudsnout Gnoll's/URL] that are near him may be worth killing just a couple times for their rare drops, that arent great but are worth keeping in mind; they also have a very annoying debuff that reduces your hit rating by 50% per application and can stack to reduce your hit rating by over 100%.
View attachment 1644
Also semi worth noting that I got [URL="http://www.wowhead.com/item=6211/recipe-elixir-of-ogres-strength"]Recipe- Ogres Strength to drop from him by hapinstance.

Our last mob is a stones throw away to the South, she is Lady Zephris.
During this run she was not up, however she seems to have about a 50% chance of being up in general.
View attachment 1646
She will be in the circle surrounded by the Daggerspine Siren.
It is also worth noting that this is a good place to possibly pick up some mats for Goblin Deviled Clam's.

Thanks to Poledancer that is not the last rare on our list!
Our last rare is Craw the Ravager who can be found just South of Lady Zephris
In order to get to him you will need to swim, however it seems worth it, as he is still just a stones throw away from Lady Zephris
View attachment 1654
I only farmed him once due to a request from Poledancer, however he is definetly worth adding to the list, I can only specuate, but I would think this rare would be up a considerable amount of the time due to the fact that he is sorta 'of the beaten path' for most questers.

ALSO...
Thanks to Stim we have a big overview of all the rares listed above, for those of you who wish to look at the big picture :).
Hillsbrad Foothills rare map!

I hope that this post is strait forward and helpful to people looking for transmog piece's. If you think/know that I am missing any mobs please comment! I will add it into these posts and accredit you.

It is also worth noting that a simple /target (name of rare) macro is beneficial to finding some of these guys.

Anyway, looks like you put a lot of work into this, so i gave you a like <3

Getting spammed by hunters AND seeing that comp, that was just one example of screenshots I saw and isnt really important, I get what you mean though and ty for the like :).

Some time ago, Bizarre wrote an awesome guide concerning this, mostly focussing on getting Ivycloth Bracers.
Looks like they've added some new rares in Hillsbrad.I never made route maps of Duskwood or Hillsbrad. After MoP, Ivycloth Bracelets were no longer sought after as much. People are still welcome to try these methods. It's a great way for getting mog gear, as well as greens for DE, or to make a quick piece of silver. I like this guide that you wrote, giving details of each rare's location as well as providing screenshots. I know how time consuming rare farming can be.. Good job!

Ty, think it would be worth it to post a guide to Ashenvale rare farming? (already have a route that I take to farm)

Ashenvale, Hillsbrad, Duskwood, even Wetlands were all great places to farm rares. If you have the time to do so, by all means! Hell, I might even go check out these new creatures they've added.

The reason that I did Hillsbrad is because it seems like alot of the rares are up for those who wish to go farming them, unlike duskwood and wetlands which seem heavily trafficked by people leveling that see a rare and kill it for the xp bonus. Ashenvale seems like the only 'viable' spot for rare farming, on average about half of the rares that I look for are up at a given time.

Yes, I used to skulk around in Ashenvale & Hillsbrad the most. Although I never used to have a problem with Duskwood either. I didn't farm Wetlands much, because it was tedious getting there as Horde. This was also before CRZ, if I recall.

I have tried farming pretty much all the rares in the zones worth farming. Ashenvale as I said is worth mentioning, pretty decent amount of rares up every time; Wetlands is pretty much a complete toss out, not because of the distance but because of the mount of rares up at any given time, I was surprised after 3 runs of seeing only 1 rare up out of the 6-8 I went for. Duskwood is a maybe, I have done 1 run of the place and didnt see any of the rares I wanted, but who knows. If you end up looking at them again (post crz) shoot me a message with what you think.

UPDATE: (For those of you who care :p)

Defender Boots finally droped for me (last piece I needed for my xmog set). Took a couple of weeks of farming but it worked, so to those of you missing a couple pieces of your 'dream xmog'... keep trying!

It droped from Craw the Ravager... so thank you Poledancer!

I have weevil in the 2nd one, but im not so sure he is that great for putting on the list... just due to the low rate of him being up (he is in a pretty heavily trampled area)

The rest however are great aditions and im going to have to go check them out. (Alitus looks like he would make for a BA hunter pet if he is able to be tamed)

Also to those of you curious regarding some of the images which are for some reason not beign displayed in my 2nd post here they are... (dont know why they didnt take the first time, must of been that '5 file limit' thing)

Araga SS:

Weevil SS: (He wasnt up during the time I went but this is where he can be found)

The reason they were added is to give hunters pets according to wowhead so they can probably all be tamed. Little Bjoern is on top of the Miamiss mine and The Dark Prowler is beneth the R of The Sludgeguard Tower.
