DPS Prot warrior?

Gulbon

Legend
Greetings guys and girls. Since 5.2, I've did a BG on my 24 undead rogue and 20 night elf feral druid, and currently, I love it on both sides so far, can barely tell the difference.

Seeing as there isn't much of a gap anymore between 24s and 20s, I was thinking of making a P2P 20 DPS prot warrior on Aerie Peak with F2P gearing restrictions.

Are DPS prot warriors even viable? At 39, I know they're awesome to play as, but what about here?

I'll probably level my professions through P2P means (Though I'll cap them at 100ish or only make F2P stuff), and get my F2P enchants through the AH. I purposely chose Aerie Peak because I have no high levels there, so I'll be grinding for heirlooms. I don't mind the heirloom grind, I just mind the professions grind, hence why I'm going P2P 20 with F2P restrictions.

If DPS prots are viable, could I get a HORDE Chardev?

Cheers - That local F2P and 24 guy who people hate. :p

They are viable, most things will ignore you because you simply don't die once BiS unless they are willing to take a good 45 sec-1 minute to down you. Try and focus on targets that are going down and just execute them.

It's nice to see anothet p2p go 20 with restrictions.

With the buff applied to shield slam, I would not be surprised if they became viable.

However, Arms will still remain the champ. The one thing that arms has that prot doesn't, is mortal wounds.

A 25% healing debuff is another way of saying 25% more dmg. And 2her white hits are always smecky.

Just cap proffs like mining herb alch or skinning at 75 and make a new lvl 5 character with alchemy for pots crafting. armor kits and enchants are easy to obtain through AH or random ppl in trade chat.

I've put together my own little Chardev. Not sure if it is in fact the best since I haven't looked into F2P as much as I did months ago.

chardev 10 - Mist of Pandaria - BETA

Is it any good? I know Undead isn't the best race, though I prefer their looks. Also, the chance to heal yourself when you do damage is pretty nice (Saved me a few times on my 24 rogue.)

Can confirm prot is amazing in wsg. It sounds crazy, but I've seen a few boa'less prots top dmg charts in wsg today. I won't pretend to understand what's going on, since I'm noob war. But whatever it is, it's working for them.

OT, I haven't tried 5.2 prot yet but some fellow vashjites have said SS is the shit now

Crits really hard and is harder to take down, but 25% healing debuff is huge, not to mention slam is spammable.

This.

No one is arguing that prot doesn't do a lot of damage, because it does. But arms does plenty of great damage too, however a 25% reduced healing received on who ever you are killing is very gamebreaking at our lvl.

Not only does that compliment your own damage, but the damage of your teammates. Healers will have to heal 25% more on your kill target just to keep up with your dmg and your team's dmg ( assuming you are all targeting the same person.)

In other words, if you are trying to decide if you are going prot dps vs arms; ask yourself this:

Do I want more survival or do I want the 25% healing debuff.?

Prot will probably be better for pugging but any premade would take an arms war over prot.

Arms does in fact sound huge (I'm thinking I could switch between DPS prot and arms, back and forth considering they both share the same BiS gear obviously. What's enjoyable about prot DPS for me is they have very good damage, are tanky, and can make good back-up Flag Carriers just in case stuff goes wrong.

Will probably have to grind for the axe to keep in my bags then.

I still can't decide which item to choose for my warrior.
SAtEP or SoA

Shield seems to be BiS for Prot and the Pants seem to be best stam and crit for pants. Are the Pants better than Foreman's or Stone Guard Greaves for Arms? I hoped the BoA shield would become BiS and make my decision easy but i guess i'm out of luck.

The shield is the best choice for prot @ the moment in my opinion + you will never know if we are able to get the heirloom shields when they make it into the game.
The Pants sound nice regarding Stam and Crit. But they have 0 strength on it. And Crit scaling sucks with 5.2.
Take the shield and Foreman's (or Kalecgos if horde) and be happy.

Cheers
