Stupid technology! My power supply has blown! D:

My power supply on my computer has finally packed in I think.

I was playing wow when suddenly my computer magically turned off, soon after this occurred there was the smell of hot metal. I checked the back of the PC to see if it had overheated, the back of the PSU was very hot so I thought it was just an overheat, however the computer will not start up what so ever. Even if I click the on button a million times and pray it still won't turn on!

Oh technology, Y U NO WORK!!!

pull the sumbitch out, hook it up to your wall outlet and use a paperclip jumper on the 24pin connector, green to black. see if it still works

No luck I'm afraid D: it's truly dead!

Time to get a quality power supply like Antec and make sure it has plenty of power (depends on your system, but don't mess with anything less than 500W). I've put together several systems from components and this is a lesson I learned the hard way.

You should be able to get something decent for $50-80.

I have a PSU Arriving tomorrow so hopefully with a bit of luck it'll work! only time will tell!!!

Indeed, I've purchased a 600 Watt PSU which is better than my previous PSU which was a 400 watt PSU :p Hopefully all turns out well :D

What brand? Also what rating? Gold, Silver, Bronze? All important factors. The one piece in your comp you never want to go the cheap route is your PSU

Gold, Silver and Bronze refer to the energy efficiency of the PSU. I always recommend at least an 80 plus Silver rated power supply. I advise you to keep that PSU as a very short term fix. Cheap power supplies like that often don't have the efficient power output to power the newer processors and components. They cut down on your computers life and often cause instability in your computer and components. What video card are you running with?

That's fair enough, I plan on doing just that. It's not going to last forever and the PSU itself is rather cheap so it's a concern.

My visual card is a Nvidia GeForce 550Ti.

I would make sure that PSU has a PCIE power connection coming off it as well.

Nice man ^^ Yeah, my graphics card came with a PCI - E Adapter thing, it just needs to be connected to a SATA Cable :3
