Getting Delevelled

Meat

Legend
Hey all, as you may or may not know, I used to play a Hunter in the 70 bracket (since 2009), but levelled up due to peer pressure on the 10th of December 2012.

This turned out to be to worst decision I have ever made in the game.

I spoke to several GMs about this issue, but recieved the default copy & paste message along the lines of "this is not possible under any circumstances".

However, tonight I managed to get in contact with an awesome GM, who gave me a lot of useful information, but was unfortunately unable to restore my character back to a time where it was level 70, or 'delevel' him.

This is how the chat went:

tl;dr - It is technically possible to restore the character back to level 70, the only reason he would not is because of regulations.

As you can see, this makes me want to quit, and I probably should, but I ask, any assistance anyone can give whatsoever that could give the slightest chance of getting my character restored back to level 70 would be just amazing.

Please, if you have any info about this possibility, please reply to this thread or pm me.

Thanks for reading,
Meat

My Paladin named Daisan on Anub'arak was deleveled. This was done by a developer at the behest of a GM whom had switched my experience gain back while in control of my character while addressing a glitch in a quest. It took weeks and many emails to address the snags that came from doing it. They do not have a system in place so the developer had to do it.

Do you mean emails or tickets? If emails I don't suppose you can remember the address to which you sent?

Oh, my dear Asa, you have my full support! I didn't realise how much you loved your hunter being 70. I myself can fully empathise, I do not regret leveling my 70 Druid, however leveling my 19 twink back in 08 was the worst decision I have done and have yet rarely played the character at all. If you need any help in the future just shout x

I can't believe that this GM actually gave you valid information on this issue, Goodluck with your character.

Meat, I stopped in here to say you handled the situation with exceptional professionalism and respect. You expressed your disappointment while making it clear you appreciated the GM's time and efforts. That kind of clarity is rare. I hope you find success deleveling in the future.

I spoke with a GM a couple days ago about a gf'ed toon that I accidentally leveled recently. He basically gave me the following reasons for why he wouldn't move my gf'ed gear to a new toon:

1) The new toon wouldn't have "earned" the gear.
2) If they provided this service to twinks, there would be a significant increase in GM tickets and would increase the GM response wait time. (This reason is a little far-fetched in my opinion.)

What is your point?
Why would you even expect it to work? It's well known GMs are fairly useless.

Blizzard did this for a twink just a few months ago, so it doesn't hurt to try... The GM told me that they might have changed their policy in the meantime, however.

i went thru this over many days with GM's/support on develing a player that had it's XP turned on without me doing so when WOTLK was made free. they told me it was not possible to do this. they claimed rules, regulations, technical issues. they told me once leveled, a player "CAN NOT" be rolled back or deleveled. this is where i told them they are not being truthfull and in following tickets i kept pressing....who at blizzard does

i cited the 90's that were develed at MOP start, who were exploiting, and were deleveled. it was on WOW forums, and many other forums. players deleveled admiited it, their armories showed 90 achieve, and players were rolled back and it reflected so on the armories.

they would say GM's can not roll players back, going back and forth i asked who does then at blizzard, reciting examples

they tried to use the canned we can not talk about other players accounts due to privacy concerns, i recited that many players privacy is blown already and being discussed on their forums

they told me they would not roll me back (maybe they asked who could), and indirectly in a circumvented answer said DEV's and their department are the ones who can roll back players.

so it comes down to programmers, DEVs, and ones who do hot fixes. roll back is basicly a hotfix ability they have

MOP realease 2012 proves over and over ...they can

they just did this for twiggi who had turned on XP for a premade thru the wargames system and leveled after not turning off XP, they have done this for other 19's also. they did this for a rogue on this forum awhile back who popped to 71. he wouldn't say on the forum how they dealt with it, but usually it's the same procedure for GM's they move the gear to another player.
another 70 who accidently popped , had room on his server, the GM insta granted him a 70 and moved the gear over,

there was one player on this forum who popped his 19, and the GM moved all the gear to a level 1, there was a SS showing the worlds most OP level 1, he didn't abuse it and said he was going to 19

it's all hit or miss when it comes to GM's and what they are willing to do. you give them names and examples and they slip the canned statements on you and say due to legal, etc. etc. they are not allowed to talk about other players accounts, etc. etc.

I got Shinobi rolled back to before her faction change. This was around the 6th of January and the faction change was done on the 15th of December, which was basically 3 weeks prior.

I made 7 in-game tickets, and got the same response each time. But when I called up customer support and explained my situation, he told me to give him a couple of minutes to see what he could do. He came back like 10 minutes later and told me that they would roll me back but that it was a huge exception since the faction change was done so long ago. However, unlike your situation, I was hacked and leveled, and they were partially to blame for it.

Today, Shinobi is up and running (sort of) once more. But unfortunately I was hacked again a few hours ago, so I'm waiting to get my account back and see what damage was done.

Good to hear that your monk was retrievable, to any extent - I'm writing another ticket tomorrow to try to reach some higher authority, but if that doesn't work I'll definitely try giving customer support a call.

Last time I talked to a GM, I ended up arguing with him - stating that GMs these days have no authority, or permission to do anything - and that I'd like to speak to someone higher ranked.

According to this particular GM there is no GMs with more authority than others, they all follow the same procedure and policies (his argument was that according to policies 'ladi-fucking-da' etc.)

Then again GMs are known for spewing indirect and false information. Just thought I'd put that out there.

Best of luck,
lindenkron

Update:

Spoke with another GM, who was somewhat less helpful than the previous one, conversation below:

I'll be calling customer support later today, hopefully they will be able to do something about this :(

I went through something a little like this a year or more ago (was it two years??) -- whenever it was they had a patch that for whatever reason removed a lot of enchants. I had just worked making a 29 twink rogue on a server without a main and had just managed to get goose on both my weapons when this happened. Anyway, it was a lot of effort to get those enchants and i wasn't going to let it go easily. What I learned from the experience was this

1) They're not going to go against policy unless there is something very specific about your case that makes them feel like they're at fault (this applied in my case but wasn't enough anyway).
2) They're not going to go against policy if they think it might end up affecting a lot of people (in the case of the enchants it was a ton of people affected, so they didn't want to start a cascade of requests).
3) How long you've been playing, how much money you've spent, etc. doesn't seem to have much effect on the decision (at least it didn't seem that way)
4) Talking about quitting doesn't seem to have any effect on their decision

and the most important thing
5) Whether or not you quit should be about whether you had seriously thought about quitting anyway. The amount of effort we are willing to go through to get things fixed just shows how much we like the game and don't really want to quit. If you had been seriously considering quitting anyway, just quit and don't bother trying to get it fixed (cause you probably won't anyway).

In my case I had been thinking about quitting, so after 2 GMs and a 'manager' of some kind, I stopped playing. I got back in when F2P came out, and recently started paying again.

Ugh. This thread annoys me because these are things that are already very well known.

Just a small tidbit about something I know but haven't mentioned before on TI; I know someone who was rolled back after months. However, he was a 60 twink that leveled to 62 and had full T3. His leveling was a mistake initially (and then he got upset and drunk so he leveled again). He ended up directly emailing a Blizzard employee whose email I now have (but won't post because it will no doubt get spammed), and they rolled him back after multiple unsuccessful attempts via regular GM/Phone Support. At this point it had been weeks to months since he leveled. GMs are absolutely useless, do not waste your time.

Some facts:
- GMs have no power.
- GMs will not escalate it because there is no reason to.
- Only Developers themselves can directly roll you back.
- Short of appealing to an actual Blizzard employee that legitimately wants to help you (and they won't, you can reroll your 70), you're screwed.
