Steam is pretty useful, Most games are on sale on holidays, And every game you buy is locked on your account forever.

As long as you have an internet connection then Steam should be fine. One thing I hate though, is going out buying a game and HAVING to use Steam to play it, then it wants to download the whole game again after I just installed it from a disk

I just want to play a game off-line and Steam won't allow me. I bought Borderlands a while back and it won't let me play it for some reason anymore *sigh*

I fucking hate Steam. I work offshore so internet bandwith is like working with AOL dial up connection.

As long as the game is up-to-date you can usually play them without an internet connection by putting steam in offline mode. Steam>Go Offline.

I tried that and it won't work, so I've logged online with my steam account and there aren't any updates
