A Few Mage Questions

First off I had no idea which bracket to post this question in, sorry if I was wrong to post it here. I tend to get bored playing 1 character all the time, so I usually end up making tons of alts. I've decided my next alt would be a mage. I want to level him through bgs. I have all the BoAs for him including pants. I usually stop my leveling every so often and then grind out dungeon and quest blues to stay current. I was wondering what spec would be most efficient to level up in. I know arcane in Cata used to destroy things, but with all the changes in MoP I don't know what I should go with anymore. I'm not expecting to dominate with him or anything. I just want the spec that will help my teams out the most and hopefully keep me from dying too much. Worse comes to worse I guess I could just ask each bracket what the best mage spec currently is.

All of them are viable, though frost makes for the best cc, fire for burst as far as I remember, and arcane for a mix of the two. Incase you have more questions, the tavern forum is where these types of things go, provided they aren't bracket specific.

i feel like arcane is the burstiest and also the most fun to level with.

Fire is the best for lvling/pvp hands down to around lvl 60, arcane is ok, a bit behind fire(have no idea why blizz nerfed arcanes dmg down 5%). Frost would just be useless without deep freeze dmg wise. Once you hit 66 frost all the way.

Doesn't Fire need high crit to be sucessful though? I thought I was going to get answers like Arcane>Frost>Fire or Frost>Arcane>Fire, if Fire really is the best until 66 that's awesome, I prefer Fire in the first place.

Crit isn't a big issue. BoA has crit, plus alot of the dungeon gear has crit. You only need to crit once to get pyroblast, which will be your main dmg output, if you use inferno blast(lvl 24) its a guaranteed crit.
So say your scorch or fireball crits, scorch/fireball=>inferno blast=>pyro. It will come up on the side when you get the first crit so you'll know just fine. Have fun with the mage sir.

Oh wow Inferno Blast is a guaranteed crit? I did not know that. Since you seem to be one of the only ones answering my questions, and my other 2 threads have sat unanswered for 2 days now, could I ask you 2 more questions? The first is, which bracket is the most active, as in I won't have to wait hours for a queue to pop? The second is, I heard 70s is dying out now that MoP came out, any truth to that?

in lower lvl's you can nova - scorch - fire blast for a high chance pyro.
usefull in any lvl tbh.

all the leveling brackets get pops, so if you plan to level up in bgs then i'd go 10-15, lock for gear updates, 15-19, lock for 19 bgs (if you want), 19-20, lock for f2p, 20-24, lock for more f2p, 24-30, lock for gear, 30-35, lock for gear, 35-39, lock for 39s (if you can do the times they are active, 39-50, lock for gear, 50-56, lock for gear, etc. holding at 70, 80 and 85 if you like.
19,20-24,39,70,80,85 will be the only locked brackets where you will get any sort of regular action (in my experience)
Mage wise, it depends on play style. However, fire is not that fun until 24 when you get your insta crit inferno blast. in order to get your 2 crits in a row you'll need to use frost nova and shatter to try to get things more in your favor (and shatter doesn't come until 16). Then it gets more fun at 36 when you get critical mass
Arcane gets ok at 12 when you get arcane barrage, but is kinda lame until 24 when you get arcane missles.
Ice is more fun after 16 with shatter.
If it was me, i'd go arcane 10-16, frost 16-24, then whichever you like after that with a lean towards fire.

I'm leveling my mage to 90 and I planned on locking at max level gearing, he's 24 right now, and then leveling bgs again....the extra questions pertained to making a twink. I want to make another toon to actually twink with, but I am trying to figure out the most active bracket to twink in, as well as a server that pertains to that bracket. I know 70 WAS the bracket to twink at, but I heard since MoP hit it died off. Is 70 still the way to go or is there a new best bracket?

i have a mage in 20-24 locked and in 85-89 locked.
both are fun and get decent pops.
The mage in 20-24 is level 20 and feels gimped now compared to pre-mop and the playstyle i was using then due to special abilities like arc missles now having a 24 req. if you go 24, then this isn't an issue and the char should be pretty fun to play.
85 is a lot of fun. Since you have mop you can get mop blues that are ilvl417 plus and do some crazy things pve wise (and pvp as well).
right now i'm enjoying 85 quite a bit, though i hadn't had this char at level during cata and thus don't have much pvp gear and that vender is missing right now so that's a bit of a downer (though its not necessary with mop in order to have fun)

I am leveling this mage to 90, he will not be the twink. I am going to start another toon and twink him, but first what I am looking for is the most active bracket for twinking nowadays. I know in Cata 70 was THE twink bracket, but I heard it died off with MoP out. I am trying to figure out what bracket is the most active.

85-89 gets around 2-4 min pops most nights right now as well. this may slow down as more people get mop, but its pretty fun right now.

Ehh 85-89 seems a little high to twink at an unstable bracket like that. Would be quite a bit of work that could go down the drain at any time.
