Priests - Spec and talents

Here are my questions and my guesses. I am sure I am wrong some places, so please help.
My lvl 20 Disc priest seems to have lost its attacking options. Wands seems useless now - not that I ever used my wand in PvP. I have plenty of mana though - and can spam flash heal endlessly, Is penance best saved for offense?

BGs do seem worse now. I even wondered if Blizz did this to make less people stay Free at lvl 20. I still want to play to get better though - so any thoughts would be appreciated. I think some of the answers may be obvious to some experienced players.

1. Best Spec now?
I am guessing that Holy is better spec now for PvP healing but not sure.

2. Best Disc talent?
No idea.

3. Stat priorities?

Any thoughts on this?

1. I feel Disc is still the "best" spec due to six second Shield CD for other specs / Penance. That said, I find it over-powered at the moment, so holy might provide a fun challenge. :)

2. I love Dominate Mind, but it doesn't work on 24s, so for battlegrounds I would personally prefer Void Tendrils. Dominate Mind is still a good option though, especially for defense: running people off LM or WSG base roof while defending the FC. :) Veinte notified me that Psyfiend often fears hunter pets first and I agree that the lack of control is not agreeable.

3. Well, I guess balancing intellect and stamina while staying hit-capped (12). I'm a nub priest myself, Veinte said this is the new BiS, I asked a few questions and ultimately agreed. ^^

Disc is definitely the stronger spec atm. Holy could be more of a challenge but healing is so OP anyways right now that its pretty pointless. Pennance does wonders dps wise (getting ticks of 360). Void tenticles seems to be my go to talent spec right now due to Dominate mind being useless vs 24s (REALLY BLIZZ). Its very helpfull for locking people down so you can sneak away and get some breathing room.

Dominate mind though is really fun, was doing that on my p2p lastnight and its such a good feeling, its just so funny. There are probably enough 20s for you to pick that talent anyways. Enjoy!

Yde linked you a BIS setup right now which i agree with. You can check out my priest in my signature, although not BIS for MOP, you get the right idea on gear wise.

Yde/Veinte - excellent catch on the hit cap change! Thanks for the heads up.

Veinte <3

WTB just one more point of hit on Slippers - for real, come on!

How are alliance clothies hit capping these days? I'm not super familiar with what an ally hit stacking set would have looked like pre-5.x
Gsoj, hovel digger bands and I think ello's band pretty sure

You all laughed at me when I said DEM TENDRILS would be FRESH wayyyy back.

WHO"S LAUGHING NOW? veinte HUH? WAT?

lol jk. (sowwy veinte) Well since I'm here I'll contribute

1. Disc is nice because the shield allows time to react and such, and I wouldn't be worried about offense since now smite can become part of the rotation

2. IMO in a bg, most times you want to be able to stop players, and control the flow and movement of others, so tendrils or dominate mind are good. However, since we can't control dem 24's, I'd say tendrils would be great. Especially with these stalemate games with oodles of healers, stopping a bunch of peeps from getting to the flag, while you try and run back with the flag might give you that edge.

3. No need to repeat (even though my 2 points is kind of a repeat lulz)

Holy lost mobility without renew. Kiting with chastise is great and all, but having to hardcast heals when PW:S is on CD kinda takes away from that. Holy Fire and Smite damage for less than a penance tick (only hit ~125 for me, vs. 180 per tick of penance). Holy is viable because heals are ridiculous, but its vastly inferior to disc. I seriously hate to admit it, but Disc is miles ahead of Holy both offensively and defensively. Shadow was a miserable spec before the patch, and THEN it was gutted. I'm all for unorthodox gameplay, but a 20 shadow priest is a waste of a BG spot. 24 looks fun though.

All of the talents are pretty strong IMO. Psyfiend was a bit of a bother on my rogue (instantly refeared after I popped WotF), and the pet thing is less of a problem with all the FOTM huntards rerolling. Void tendrils is great control. Dominate Mind is my choice for now. Even though it doesn't work against 24s, its the best counter to a 161% travel form druid FC and abilities that can prevent a Holy Shock cast are desperately needed right now. With the current state of heals/damage, CCing yourself to use it is less of a risk to you/your team.

Gave my priest a second chance just now. Its mildly fun if I use penance offensively on cooldown, then spam SW:p and PW:S on people at random til its off CD. Even made a macro for it! Just move your mouse around the screen a lot and spam this:

#showtooltip
/cast [@mouseover, exists, nohelp]Shadow Word: Pain;[@mouseover,exists, help][]Power Word: Shield

lolmanaissues.

Update, now Priests have a base 15% hit chance. What does this mean? That Priests no longer have to use gear with hit rating on it. Veinte @ Aerie Peak - Game Guide - World of Warcraft with DHMC/Mindthrust is what I'm thinking BiS will be. Any other thoughts on this?

Super jealous, by the way. Would love some free hit for locks/mages...

GSOJ may still be better than DHC, depending on how the PvP defense (PvP resilience?) comes in. Would absolutely be worth doing some tests to see how much extra mitigation there is. That is, assuming healing reaches a reasonable level where healers have to be at least somewhat concerned with survival. If the mitigation is negligible, I'd definitely say that a little extra crit/SP is the way to go.

If we keep that 15% baseline hit rating. Does that mean we are actually hit capped versus level 24 players? WoW

Edit: I checked ingame and we need 15% for level 23. But with GSoJ it seems we can get 18% which should hitcap vs 24.

On another note:
I tried shadow but without mindblast it seems useless. And i even managed to go oom. I believe it is only gonna get worse when they fix mana regeneration. Too bad.

f'ing banger. NO HIT GEAR here i come.

So annoying. You work hard to hit cap when 95% of the bracket has no idea what hit is then half the specs get free hit and two DWing specs LOSE hit.

I know I know QQ moar Uncle Drünk... still we should be able to sell back our hard earned BoAs.

But then again let's not get too entitled - we are playing for free yo.

XOXO to All,

Uncle Drünk
