Weekly scheduled events!

  • Hey guys, there is a general consensus in people's minds that ap isn't as friendly or fun as it used to be. So I came up with an idea, and if it falls flat on its face, so be it, I tried. Basically, I am of the opinion that at least once a week we schedule an event for anyone that wants in, in order to form new friendships, bring back old faces and most importantly, HAVE FUN :D

Events could be anything, maybe a Free for all in gurubashi, or another hellfires fortifications. We could have DMF fun when it came along, or maybe some high level area exploring. From picnicking at gallywix's pleasure palace to arena tournaments to world PvP i believe the possibilites are endless. In fact, I know purse is organising a high level mob fight atm, really we could do whatever people wanted. Like I said, if people don't like the idea, then let it die, but I genuinely think it can and will work if people really get into it, and make a point of returning to be in the midst of some good old fashioned ap fun ;)

So the post I really wanted to refer to was deleted, however, the jist was that I was making up the general consensus in order to stir up trouble. I thought I'd disprove this and gather some quotes from posts all over the site.

The general atmosphere, average skill level, and basically everything that made AP fun to play on is now almost completely gone.
Obviously we don't own the realm but it is really annoying to think back on how great AP was "in its day."
the most sad thing to me is the complete lack of fun I have with nothing fun or challenging to do, AP is just in a rut right now and it's impossible to dig it out unless something changes.
I started playing on AP durring the golden age, when Ally and Horde both had people everyone knew, where peeps would go down to Gurubashi just to hang out and fuck around, and kill overzealous 19s. Ahhhh... those days were short-lived though
except I just can't be bothered when the community is going to shit
Yeah, the community's really gone downhill
It seems the overturning influx of individuals has changed the camaraderie amongst the f2p community, at least on AP horde.

Any more thoughts on the original idea?

I would love if this was arranged, but it should be on both sides to make it work for everyone.
For example I only got an Alliance, and it would be a shame not to be able to come to the events.
But it requires some help and work, good luck :) If I can help, just pm.

I suggest setting a time on Saturday to start, and if there are enough P2P on both sides wanting to participate, go for Hellfire Fornification.

If not, everyone meet up in and travel to Gurubashi in a huge autofollow chain and someone record that. And then free for all.

Defo no reason alliance couldnt join, a little vent would be all thats needed :D

The only problem with planned events like that is 85s show up to cause problems.

Hmmm, true. Maybe if the specific time was organised in the chat?

it might be a good idea to have an official, stickied f2p calendar (similar to in-game) monitored by our admins. once interest for a particular event has been established in another thread, it will be added. this will allow less active forum users to participate by eliminating the need to wade through a sea of posts.

of course, interference is always a possibility. that having been said, we can always switch plans. if the f2p interest is there and hellfire proves problematic, why not have have a picnic? a prom? an orgy? oh, wait. we did that last one already. most of the non-pvp activities will be in neutral areas, anyway.

If we have enough P2Ps we could also summon everyone away to some contingency plan activity if 85s interfere. Say Guru is no fun due to interference, summon everyone to Halaa to take it. If we have enough fun alternatives planned, they can't all be crashed.

We could also make a list with possible activities and just decide spontaneously.

Actually we should make that list anyway.

Hey guys, nice to see some interest in this idea. Unfortunately, I am away this weekend so I could only potentially do it on Friday, if this doesn't suit people, then just fo it on the weekend and I'll join next weekend. Still need ideas for what to do, maybe a free for all in Gurubashi would be good. I always found killing people was a great way to make friends, this also allows for easy alliance access to the event as well. If anyone has any other ideas, please share.

Yesterday we talked about how we ought to get a move on with the Aerie Peak events! So look out for the following events:

    • I would like to try having several test Pirate-Mades (with those who have their mogs ready) tomorrow on Sunday July 29 from 7 - 8 am server time and again at 12 pm server time.

    • Felix decreed that the Mario Kart Arathi Basin should be held tomorrow on Sunday July 29 after fishing ends at 4 pm server time.

    • Don't forget the Twinks & Drinks Summer Event starting on Monday July 30!

    • Several of you would like to get 19s Arenas and WSG started again, so I'd like to try to get people online on Saturday August 4 at 1 pm server time.

    Everyone try to make it!

    Hey guys,
sorry this was left so long, have been on holidays but im back now, and want to start drumming up interest again. Yde's post above is seriously helpful in getting some ideas together, but to start these events of with an almighty bang, I want to get something together that will get many people involved, so premades dont work perfectly. If anyone has any other ideas, post them here and I'll start to work on getting a date together.
    Many Thanks,

Alright, bumped the respective threads and won't post about these in here again. ^^

The pirate-mades and 19s do require some effort and preparation, but are accessible to everyone, so if anyone is interested, check out the links and join up. :)

Idea for something easy, somewhat impressive-looking and simple to set up:
Meet up in Org, form huge autofollow Conga-line, run to Ratchet / Booty Bay / Guru that way, FFA.

    1. You can't have faction-wide PvP events if nether side can get along or one side is outnumbered, which seems to fit how AP is right now imo.

    2. Ideas:
    • Hide and Seek, very fun but people have to be honest, Have to turn off nameplates and stuff.
    • F2P Raiding, we would need LOTS of people for this. People have talked about it over and over so it probably won't ever happen but I think we should try it! Killing high level mobs is one of the silliest things in this game!
    • Halaa, but instead of just taking it, you have AP ally/horde try to take it back while you defend (so no guards?), however, this would be really hard to do without 85s ruining it.
    • Turtle Fishing, just in time for boa mounts? 8)

    All I got :(

Ok, i'm sorry I let this wait so long again (I'm terrible with commitment :p). However, this needs to actually start, I think Rhae's idea of hide and seek is brilliant, so unless anyone has any far better ideas, thats what I'm gonna go for. Now we just need a few things, first is rules. I know, rules usually equal boring, but in this case i reckon they're neccesary. The rules are fairly simple:
    1. Keep nameplates off at all times and dont use /tar
    2. Don't kill opposing faction players just because you can, this will just annoy people, in fact, its probably better to keep your pvp off at all times.
    3.HAVE FUN!

The second thing we need is a place to do it. It has to be accesible to alliance and horde, somewhere where few people go, and where there aren't a bazillion mobs. Of course, one option to solve this is have everyone roll a horde toon (even just a level 1), and do this in org or thunder bluff etc.

Thirdly we need a date and time, I have to go away on wednesday, so its probably best to do this sooner, to suit eu and us players, I think around 2 server time is optimal. Therefore, I propose we go ahead with this idea on tuesday the 7th at 2pm server time, if there are any obvious objections let me know.

The fourth and easily most important thing is people. A game of hide and seek is simply no fun with only a few people. Images of 40+ toons running through an area trying to find me already makes me excited, so I really hope people will turn up for some good old stinkin' fashioned ap fun :D

(btw, i'm the hider, no arguments :p)
