Man oh man, what a good fight!

Capias

Legend
  • I grouped up with 4 buddies, did the ready check, and then Q'd for Warsong. We looked around at each other and observed that we had a well-balanced team of rogue, feral, hunter, prot pally, and disc priest.

"Hey guys, wouldn't it be great if we ran into Honeybadger and Spewfeel now?" one of us said invent.

A minute later we get the pop.

We got into the Warsong and started checking out the alliance order of battle. Woot! There they are!

"Gentlemen," I said, "this is going to be a very tough fight. Need to be focused. There's no room for error with these allies."

Both teams were prepared, brought their A-game to the match, and so it was hair, teeth and eyeballs every step of the way. Everyone knew that this was going to go down to the wire. No crazy emoting or juvenile epeening - it was pure competitive PVP every moment. With two minutes left on the clock, it was over.

After it ended, one of the allies on my real ID list messaged me "well played." I messaged back "best game ever."

I got beat by a team with 4 24 healers healing 4 24 hunters, i did not message them after the game.

    so who won ?

Well OK, the Horde won that time. Earlier in the evening a few us in group faced off against Honeybadger, Spewfeel and crew in a hard-fought match that also had gone down-to-the wire. So when we got the pop for Warsong and I saw an ally on real ID also get a pop for Warsong, I messaged him "REMATCH!"

Most of the guys with whom I run Warsong Horde side also have Ally toons, and we often end up on opposite sides in a match.

Had 2 great games . 1st we pulled off victory , 2nd was 2 hard to fight off . I tried to contain "harder "heals but it was too much . 1st game we had a well balanced attack . 2nd game only 4 of us me ,spew fcing, cim healing, zal hunting ,felt like we were playing 8 good players on the horde lol. Both games I couldn't go offense as much as i like had to peel people off spew lol. Well played games on both . Not bad for 4am and 5;30 am games lol.

    So went tie on games

The first time it was Harder and I and one other guy grouped. The one other guy rotated out, and three guys rotated in, and then eventually we went up against you. So Harder and I were on both the first and second teams, but all the other players were different.

I was struck by how it seemed that no one gave up, no one afk'd out. (And why would any real PVper want to afk out of such a good game? Only an epeening little poseur worried about his oh-so-precious win-loss record would afk out of such a game.) Even in the final minutes when Horde was up 2 - 0 and each team had the other's flag, I found myself thinking that the game was by no means won. I could just see the Allies open up on the Horde FC, cap, grab the Horde flag, and then spring across the field for a victory in the final seconds. It really was that kind of game. So the final score 3-0 isn't truly indicative of the true challenge.

I just don't see how anyone in his right mind could possibly prefer to grab the enemy flag and then waste 20 minutes prancing around the field and standing in the enemy GY, shooting opponents as they rezz which yields no honor.

I saw another good fight a few days in the WG. At one point Corey called out in vent, "dude, you gotta see this, two free-to-plays are slugging it out in the Ally flag room!" So Critster, Harder, Brego, and I rushed from mid-field to the Ally flag room and found a level 20 shammy and a level 20 paladin going at it. Nobody intervened, not even to toss a heal to whichever f2p was on our team. We simply jumped up and down and cheered as these two guys fought to the death. (I even changed into my banker gear since I had no intention of getting into their fight.) I'm sure that that ally 20 must've been scratching his head when five 24s entered the flag room but only watched the duel.

A few weeks ago we all turned ourselves into bunnies and just waited in our flag room for the Allies to roll in. And of course each one of us had out a pet bunny from the Noble Garden quests, which immediately went to work producing little baby bunnies. The Allies rolled in and saw a room full of bunnies hopping around. And they stopped for as they experienced a "WTF moment." And then combat began. I'm not sure, but I seem to remember that someone said he screen-shotted it.

    Great story. Thanks for sharing.

I had one single game yesterday. I have been mostly PvEing since I got back on my priest, collecting gear, achiev points and fooling around, but figured I could try a round of PUG WSG.

The game started off badly with one saying "let's farm them" as we headed out of base. Most of our group stayed midfield as two of us went ramp, grabbed flag and returned the same way. EFC was overwhelmed and I could proceed to cap. I then proceeded to cap two more almost unhindered, but what coul/should have been a boring game felt really great for a couple of reasons:

    - Two on our team took the effort of defending our base for the rest of the game after the first cap
    - Two more stayed with me, at least for parts of my runs to protect me

That gave me that proud feeling of being part of the Horde I felt so long ago when I first started out and it made those really bad PUGs I've been part of where people shout at eachother, noone wants to defend and everyone wants to farm seem worth it.

I almost exclusively PUG, but I can see why people group up. Cooperative play is so much fun. It does make the game a bit too easy, but it's a hard balance. PUGing as an inefficient class as 20 is too frustrating, grouping as an OP 24 class is too easy. I love to be able to DPS, heal and CC on a single char, so priests suits me fine, but I guess I should consider making a 20 and group up more often.

If you do decide to make a 20, you could:
    1. make a separate F2P account, easy to boost with a high level to reduce the grind.
    2. roll on Aerie Peak or Vashj alliance. :) I hang out almost exclusively on AP horde side, and there are so many different people around that whatever your taste in people to run with, it's likely represented.

Nice story Capias. I remember an AP game with all ten bunnies plus pets going roof and raining down on the ally team when they rushed in. ^^

I think I've pugged into two of your premades, and while it was somewhat boring for me, it was also over quite fast, and I got to talk to Onecleanshot again, so that was alright. :) I've been in premades with that other attitude to camping, and for me it's boring and takes much too long. If it's two groups of 24s I guess it gets more interesting again, mostly for he 24s who get a challenge. Gay recently wiped the floor with a pretty strong horde team I pugged into. ^^

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it some thought. I'm tempted to either make a troll priest on AP or maybe try out mage. I'll send you a PM when/if I decide to go.

I'm not surprised that he did. He came into our vent the other day.

Getting into a group for 24s, having a vent, and belonging to a guild that actively supports twinking has made all the difference in my enjoyment. It used to be that I would Q for a BG and then hope that I didn't get stuck with a team of angry retarded farmbait.

I no longer worry about that. I group up with quality players, we win more often than we lose, and we always bring our A-game to the fight.

And I never worry about getting gy camped anymore. It just doesn't happen.
