Are there any twinks out there that stick to the way things used to be before looms, like when it took dedication and time to get gear....or does every twink now just use heirloom gear?

There are some, but most people tend to go for heirlooms because certain pieces are best in slot. You could be reasonably competitive without them though.

Twinking is about having bis gear; its not like its easy to get.. rogues either have to spend 100k for double fangs or spend days of play tiem farming sfk

Just heirloom gear isn't good you need the rest of the set to be competitive

I mean I don't have anything against using looms, but I think it is kinda challenge to stick with BoE gear and boss drops....and yes getting 2 shadowfangs requires either a shitload of time to farm, or insane patience at the ah...have never seen them in ah though....

Heirlooms take more effort to get than the corresponding BoE's/boss drops.

What I mean to say is, boe/boss chests and shoulders in comparison to BoA's. Since there are no BoA boots, those don't really count.

I don't think you'll have anyone support you if you were to say that you'd opt to wear downgrades over superior items just because you're feeling nostalgic. Twinking has always been about adopting better, shinier toys. And as another poster pointed out, it takes more effort to obtain BoA items as opposed to dungeon drops and quest rewards.
