  • Ok, after my last (disastrous) bout of arena sampling, i decided i'm ready for another shot, however, I think maybe trying to start off playing with the more experienced players again will lead me to a sense of frustration, not because i'm losing, but because I'm dragging down my team with me. Therefore, It would be awesome if other players who are also new to areans wanted to try having a few matches between ourselves first, to become comfortable with it and learn what works and what doesn't.

This idea may fall flat on its face, if so, fine. But I think it could be really beneficial even to bg players, so if you want to join me, just say so on this thread, and we can try to get a few starter arenas set up :)

    People interested in learning:
    -Zaxxo
    -Faelqt
    -randomcuts
    -Vanguard
    -Yde
    People interested in 'teaching':
    -Kahr

Edit: These would be almost exclusively based on ap i think, i myself am a tauren, so obviously horde. (Thanks to Balditron for advising me to post this :D)

If you get no interest, you could always try to get a bud to fiddle with you in Nagrand and BE arena's (the real ones). You could practice maneuvering and LoS games, etc.

This is a really good idea, and would be beneficial to all those involved. A couple of things you may want to edit into your OP though would be server, faction & continent just to get the ball rolling ^^ Best of luck!

Me! - but I'm alliance (AP). Let's do both perhaps? I'd be willing to edit this post to list the alliance who would want to do this according to server and continent. Maybe Zax could do the same for horde. Just a thought - how about extending the invitation to those pro-players out there who may wish to serve as "trainers?"

Best way to improve is still playing with better players tho. There is no point in facerolling. But it might indeed be a smaller step to play against mediocre players first.

Most is still to be learned by either playing (against better players so you know how to improve by seeing what they do and trying to do the same, coming up with something better and improve this way) or watching high end arena like Hydra etc.

I completely agree with you, however, while I think this idea could help people improve, the main idea was about helping to normalise the experience for people. When I did my first arena, I had no idea what to expect, I was ridiculously nervous and it really impacted my play. I think if people did a couple of games first where they knew the competition couldn't completely outclass them, it would help them later on. I'm not suggesting people don't move on, in fact, quite the opposite, I think people should try and push themselves as much as possible, but facing strong competition on peoples first arena really could dissuade them from continuing it.

When most on AP play arenas, it ain't about competition either, only about fun and enjoyment. Some people indeed (as am I sometimes) indeed get frustrated if people keep fucking up, time after time. But if you show you're indeed trying to improve, nobody will be mad or something. So there is no reason to have sweaty hands. Its still a game.

The idea behind it is pretty legitimate though for lots of reasons. Say someone is new to a priest and in his very first game in arenas gets completely locked down. Even if he does his best to fake cast (by now he has been told several times) theres too much going on for him to handle and the players he's playing against are used to people who can fake cast 100x better than him. Very often, this happens and its a hopeless cause for the newer player. Although you do learn by playing against people better than you there still needs to be some potential for success.

I'm afraid human nature is one thing i can't control in myself. Even when every part of me knows its all about having fun and enjoying yourself, I still feel disappointed with myself for forgetting something in the heat of the moment. But I did a few arenas tonight, and by the end, I was starting to lose my initial jitters and have fun. This is what I am trying to achieve with this idea, but your comment did help me feel calmer about arenas, so thanks for it :D

So, is there any more interest for this idea?

Thats why I mostly make sure these players aren't being focused but mostly CC'd. One of the most important things about arena is using LoS, which you can perfectly master by trying to avoid CC by using LoS. This way gear doesn't matter that hard aswell.

I am a more experienced arena player, and am willing to have "classes" to help you show some of the smaller things that will help you improve your arena experience. If your looking for general class advice, I can also help with this. Send me a pm here, talk to me ingame, or if you have my skype, feel free to ask anything.

I'm up for these beginner-Arena's anyday, just post the f2ptwink-channel and i'll join. I'm not geared yet but I assume this shouldn't be a problem. Look for me on Aerie Peak either Alliance or Horde... anything resembling an (enhancement) shaman called Vanguard .

Hope to see you in the lists soon!

P.S.: timezone EU, GMT+1 (7hours ahead of server time)

    Like this idea very much!

We could even do longer training matches to get to know the arena / LoS options better. We could stop before killing, allow each other to heal up, etc. Let's experiment. :)

ok, looks like we have a bit of interest :) I like this whole training idea thats going around a bit, could be exceptionally useful to a lot of players. I myself am in London (bst at the moment, i.e. server time +8hours), and so I think that maybe 2-3 pm server time on a wekend could work. ofc, we will need the 'experts' there, and I think the more learners, the better :)

Count Me in... Made my "Team Jimmy" Pally and besides fishing hat which i may never get I am completely geared but I cannot beat a Mage on Shammy in Duels so i NEEEED all the help I can get.
Being in VENT might help out this training arena too.

Count me in "Jimmy" ally Old Navy Guy
