The problem i see with threads like this, this and this are that they will start off productive and meaningful, then someone will say something like an opinion on a given subject and someone else will see that and say something else and then the entire thread will get derailed into pointless arguing.


There are some people who have done this more than others and they know who they are.

You guys need to learn that people will have differing opinions on things like Battlegrounds, arenas, skill caps, classes and so forth and you as an individual just have to respect that. You can give your opinion on something and that is perfectly fine but when someone else offers a differing opinion you don't need to get defensive and start an argument over who is right and who is wrong.

As Purse already mentioned in another thread, we are the largest community on twinkinfo and we are growing!! Many people come to these forums whether they are members or not, and they can see this type of stuff. Is this really what we want potentially new members to see? People trolling each other and calling each other names because they lack the brain power to respond like an adult?

I don't want this to be reality because these forums are meant to be social and at the same time helpful to everyone but that can't happen if members are acting like 13 year olds. So to the people this post applies too, grow up. Don't be a douche bag to people and if someone is a douche bag to you then be better than them and ignore them. It's called Etiquette.

They quit. You can't accomplish what you want here, this is the wrong place.

Don't get the wrong idea though. Many ppl love to see the kinds of things you've written here. But they don't post. They probably don't even make accounts here. Why would they. The vocal group here is controlled by trolls and the ppl that are easily influenced by trolls. Don't waste your time. Let the trolls have their forum. They're just kids, leave em alone.

I don't think this is that unreasonable of a request. This forum is very visible, all the newbies are directed to it, and is representative of a growing community. If we want the community to be healthy and built on respect then some amount of the petty squabbling and personal attacks is going to have to stop, or at least get toned down. I can't imagine that, after reading some of these threads where people get attacked for having an opinion someone else disagrees with, anyone recently come to this forum would want to be a part of the community at all.

If people don't care, and want this to remain a smallish group where trolling and bickering are A-ok, then we're just limiting ourselves and possibly scaring away those who could be the next vital addition. Don't get me wrong, disagreeing with someone is normal and will happen in any group, the difference is how disagreements are dealt with. It is perfectly possible to hold a different opinion from someone else and still be respectful towards them and treat them in a decent way, and not let arguments get out of hand. I would hope that the people in the community realize that the minor satisfaction gotten from one nasty remark is far inferior to what could be if people were more encouraging and could just agree to disagree like adults.

Our role-models in this forum should be people we can respect for skill as well as common courtesy, not people we tolerate because they're good at the game but are perfect jerkwads in every other aspect. I don't think it's beyond anyone here to be civil, and I don't think it's out of line for Klinda to suggest such a thing.

It's a nice idea but it will never happen.

Two of the biggest trolls in this section have already posted their opinions and of course they're trolling, that's TI for you.
 
I think it's a very reasonable and at least partially achievable request. I agree with both Klinda and Thunderkitty.

I do accept that some people will not be able to act that way, or just don't want to, and I'll even still like most of them. :) But I'm optimistic enough to think this appeal might be taken to heart by some reasonable people who've let themselves be carried away by the trolling now and then.

I do try to act in a way that I would find socially acceptable in any other situation. I don't do it perfectly myself, so I won't expect a perfect harmony, which would be a bit too boring anyway. Some controversy now and then will hopefully not break this forum, forums have survived worse. But the overall impression should really not be alienating new members!

I think if enough people usually just going along with the (trolling) flow take this to heart, at least the overall tone of this forum can get better!


(BTW, one of the most mature posts I've recently seen here was made by a 13 year old.)

tbh I really don't understand why ppl argue on forums.
Neither of the opposite sides involved in discussion won't change the other ones opinion.
ppl r just too stubborn for it.

for most of people, if you think about it, probably the only person that can change their opinion are their parents, maybe their best friend or their gf/bf.
Why would they change their opinion influenced by some other person they won't ever get to know in person?
Its much easier to stick with your opinion, even if it goes in wrong direction.
As simple as that.

There will always be trolls, no matter how optimistic and great the topic is.

P.S. The only thing I don't understand are ppl that steal channels.
I can't even imagine how miserable and pathetic their life is while they wait in their mom's cold and dark basement trying to get the moderation privileges on channel in order to lock it out for other persons.
That kind of destruction REALLY amazes me.

You're right about people keeping their opinions, but I don't think that's what we are talking about here.

The problem is not with with sticking to an opinion, and I don't think there's anything wrong with discussions. The problem is that people feel the need to act with hostility towards people that don't hold the same opinion they do, and that people work towards causing unrest instead of trying to diffuse heated arguments. Maybe it is true that not everyone will comply with keeping discussions civil on this forum, but I don't see why we can't at least discourage it more instead of acting like it's acceptable.

It's not asking a whole lot, just common courtesy, why does everyone think this is beyond expectations simply because we're on the internet? : /

you're the ones posting on the forums complaining. how am i supposed to take this thread as anything other than intentional trolling? you're deliberately inciting people to post about trolling. it's like a free pass!

if the way someone is posting really annoys you, just don't respond to them! it takes two people to create a conflict. didn't your mothers teach you when you were 5 years old to not fight back when someone is teasing you, and they will leave you alone?

i don't think you're at all interested in ceasing the trolling, to be honest. i think you enjoy it because it's humorous and lighthearted, and because you keep on responding to trolls, and because you start your own troll threads like this one. and no one is judging you for it! do whatever you want, it's up to you to enjoy yourself!

If this actually happens I may end up posting my other guides here instead of scheduling them for my blog. I love teamliquid.net btw, best gamer forum I've seen. Great place to create content for because of their level of moderation.

Anyways, good luck with that.
