    • My 1998 Chevy Cavalier LS will run, and when you turn the ignition off after done driving, it won't start back up. Could someone maybe tell me what the problem is? I drove 50 miles to another town and when i turned my car off, it wouldn't start back up for a few hours.

    It might be my PTU, im not sure though..

    whens the last time u got a new battery
     
    brand new battery. When i start it after i turn the ignition off, it cranks, but it never starts
     
    take it to a trustworthy repair shop, i've had a couple problems with my car and both times they sourced the problem easily, repaired it timely, and gave reasonable bills

    Hey dude i have an 03 Chevy Malibu & I would experience this same problem. It happened to me more then a dozen times. I changed my battery, checked the alternator, changed the spark plugs and wires, changed the fuel pump only to be wrong on all of them (though the tune up helped) . It turned out to be the computer in the car. I also thought it was the ignition or theft system acting up. I brought it to a GM dealership, she only had 65K at the time. The repair got me for $1300. But that's at GM. Other repair shops may not be able to properly diagnose the problem, just beware of Pep Boys if you intend on bringing it to a shop. I brought some brake pads from them & when I was about to install the last one it didn't fit, they had one pad mixed in from another car make. I had to put my stock brakes back on and drive back to tell them that they fucked up. They also lost my $$ i went to auto-zone nearby.

    if you havent found the source yet, a good start is to go to an autozone and have them use the OBD tool to see if they can find anything amiss
     
    Take it to autozone if this is still happening and u haven't yt. If nothing comes up on the diagnostic tool then take it to a good shop and describe exactly what's happening, including any strange sounds if there are any and see what they come up with
     
    have it diagnosed in person, theres alot of variables that would be hard to diagnose online.
    things like does it run hot?
    after turning it off and trying to start it does it crank real fast or slow?
    While running and under load does it spark knock?(pre ignition)

    it cranks just like it would start but it never actually starts, which is weird. i dont usually get out and touch it to see if it's hot. but yes most cars do run with a little heat.
     
    hot refering to overheat or above the average run zone, alot of what your describing could be timing related if it isnt related to the fuel pump or regulator. you said you just had those replaced to have the coilpacks/grounding plate checked. if its throwing a trouble code(check engine light) have it read. places like auto zone can only scan for trouble codes they cant run a full scan like a shop would, there handheld is not designed for it.

    lights not on, and no overhheating that i know of.
     
    Take your car to a "Gas Station" (we call it Petrol Station over here).

    When you go to fill your car with "gas" instead of putting it in to the filler neck "forget where it is" and instead put the nozzle into the passenger compartment.

    Once a suitable amount of "gas" has been dispensed into the interior, "accidentally" introduce a source of ignition.

    Car problems solved.

    then your going to need a full scan from a reputable shop. not much else you can do unless you like to throw away cash buying and replacing parts you dont need.
