  • I'm a new player, installed a few weeks back and have never played wow before.
When I finally discovered PvP battlegrounds I was quickly told (to my surprise) that I was a twink.
this seemed a little too specific considering the usual internet theme of calling everyone a fag

So I searched the interwebs and found out that it was just someone maxing their stats .... which I always thought was the whole point of RPGs

Anyway this is just a little introduction and a request for stories and pitfalls to be careful of.

I got my Flying Tiger Googles before doing the Kalecgos gift quest chain and unlearned engineering. of course during the quests you are required to put on a Wizard Hat and I couldn't put my googles back on because they require level 100 engineering to wear.

I'll probably roll my next toon on AP but for now I'm on gnomeregan

Haha yeah it confused me at first as well, since in the gaming sense the word "twink" isn't intended to be derogatory but the original meaning is o.0 More specifically a "twink" is someone who maxes out their stats at a choosen endgame that is usually different than the actual endgame, and originally a twink was a toon that had received help from a high level toon (such as for high level dungeon runs) to get their gear (which is probably why they started using the word twink xD)

So yes generally gearing is the whole point of rpgs, but when you gear at, say, 20 instead of 85 you become a twink :) You were told that you were a twink because being capped at 20 means that when you queue up you're automatcially put in the twink bgs, whether you like it or not. Your gear is pretty good overall but could use a few upgrades, I'd check the prot-pally guide over in the guides section for ideas on where to look for some better pieces ( I know you're ret but unless I am very much mistaken all but the weapons in a prot set would be pretty suitable for ret a well ).

Yeah you'll have to keep engineering if you want to wear those googles, but there are other head pieces available that will also be mentioned in that guide :)

Welcome! I like that you thought about the game, more people should have that attitude. :) Welcome to TI, too, there's plenty of information and fun to be had!

As a trial we can't just use the auction house to buy mats if we run out, that's one pitfall with professions. I once dropped Skinning when I (thought I) had reached the amount of mats I needed for Leatherworking. Calculated with WoW-Professions and accounted for some bad luck and some stacks of medium kits. Only I made a mistake counting my bag contents and levelled LW to 99.

    -_-

With enchanting I didn't stack enough enchanted vellum before dropping it, so Yde has an unenchanted shield and protection cloaks.

    Really useful for professions:

Useful to check out Paladin gear:

Looking foreward to seeing you on Aerie Peak :D

Great job on figuring out things being new to WoW! If you should ever roll alliance on that server, I know there are some 24s who enjoy helping people, though the only one I remember is Rallah-shaman.
