Spell Resistance changes...questions...

Spell Resistance
  • Spell resistance is gone. There are no buffs that improve it and there shouldn’t be much, if any, spell resist gear left. We always thought the system was hard to understand and we weren’t getting much gameplay out of it. Now taking a step back, we can imagine how to develop a game where you’d want various forms of resist gear for certain situations and opponents. Resist gear could potentially be interesting, but it isn’t currently in World of Warcraft -- the game has just been moving away from that sort of thing for years.
  • In the absence of spell resistance, there is no need for spell penetration on gear, so we’ll remove it as well.

The wording is a little ambiguous. Is this going to affect things like enchant cloak greater resistance, gravestone scepter, minor magic resistance potion, etc.?? Will those things still be in the game and working or are the effects going to be changed to something else?
 
Obviously their current function will be obsolete, but we will have to wait and see whether they are removed or have their function converted.
 
Maybe they gonna change it to spell dmg? 5 Fire resist --> 5 Fire spell damage... which would make keeshan bandana overpowered >.>
 
well it is hard to say what blizzard will do and to what extent.

pre CATA they said they were wiping/removing attack power and converting it to stats like str/agi: they missed a ton of armor, weapons, enchants, and potions.

also you needed look at the rest of what they said when it comes to expertise affecting ranged attacks (hunters/casters) then it would make sense that +resistance type items may end up being +expertise?

Even if they leave resistances on gear, the stat itself will no longer function in the game. My money is that they will spend more time going though all the gear and items that provide resistances/spell pen, and convert them to a more useful stat. I'm also pretty sure they will be fixing items that were overlooked in Cata, especially if they are going to go through with their 'item level squish' idea they talked about previously.

It will be interesting to see what they change the resist racials to. I'm just glad they are finally taking resists out of the game.
