IS FTP Twinking To Good To Be True?

although i am sure there is some truth to this, let's not exaggerate the effect of the f2p population on areas that p2p players level past in 3-4 days, nor the concern that blizz might have for any such effect.

The best protection for the f2p community is that many of us (not me) also have p2p accounts. Therefore blizz may be willing to allow f2p to continue in its current state because they don't know how many p2p accounts would be upset.

i personally think the f2p program will be suspended when mop is released.

oh god don't jinx it

There will be a huge marketing push when MoP comes out, just like with every other expansion. If subscriptions spike (which they will), this will drown out any need for a "try out WoW for free" to bolster subscriptions. At that point, we have to hope that Blizz forgets about the lack of a need for the F2P program for a while. Honestly, I expect a "shit or get of the pot" post from Blues at some point.

I'm not jinxing it! Saying that F2P will never get suspended would be jinxing it.

"I sure hope that no-one from Blizzard will somehow have their attention drawn to TI, stumble over this thread and decide to pass on or implement any of the ideas how to cripple or destroy F2P twinking described in here."

That is a jinx. :p

i'd guess someone already keeps a decent tab on us.

Doubtful. We are not a potential revenue stream so why waste time and resources on us. Due to the account limitations we have very little impact on the game other than within our own niche so aside from server space we have very little negative overhead.

We do:

- Increase LGF pop rates for Dungeons within our level range ( call it good call it bad, my guess is that people trying out the game would be more happy to actually see inside SFK even if they lose on a need roll to a twink, and P2P alts like the faster queue times I would assume)

- Prop up the 20-24 bracket, which keeps some P2P's subscribed

Now both of those are arguably positives traded off for server space. So what I see from a business standpoint is: Sunk cost of servers that they own getting slightly burdened by non paying customers in exchange for keeping X Paid accounts active(24s or P2P 20s), and increase pop time on 15-25 dungeon queues for P2Ps leveling alts, and true trials. Add in the sunk cost of setting up the Trial account limitation settings and any special overhead connected and it seems like it would be more cost effective to just leave it as it is.

That's my 2cents...and then some :D

i disagree with that.
1. i'm sure there's more than a couple of us that would switch back to p2p if they completely canned f2p.
2. we play it, we talk about it....we talk about it, we promote it.

...but besides that. f2p is being fairly heavily marketed by Blizz and the model is an ongoing experiment for the entire genre of MMORPGs. You don't experiment with something and not pay attention to what's going on.
