Twink bracket popularity

Hello everyone! I am new to these forums.

Long, long ago I was a 19 rogue twink on Whisperwind server. I dropped WoW several years ago and I've since made great progress with my life. But now I'm kind of bored and looking to throw myself away to an MMO once again. PvP has always been my gig, and my biggest beef with endgame WoW pvp was that you always had to keep up with the latest sets of gear, and that if you didn't you were basically excluded...which is why I turned to twinking, where the optimal gear doesn't become obsolete every few months. But with the release of Wrath of the Lich King (I left WoW only a few weeks after purchasing it) and now Cataclysm, I've been spending the past four or five days simply educating myself on what's changed.

The two developments that concern me most are battleground bracket increments reduced to 5 instead of 10 (i.e. 10-14 and 15-19 instead of 10-19) and the separation of XP on/off battlegrounds.

If I do come back to WoW and purchase Cataclysm, it'll be because I'm looking to twink again, nothing else (although I might have to do some grinding for money/levels to acquire the latest twink gear [or a LOT of grinding in the case of heirlooms...BoA wtf?]). I'd be more than willing to make a new character on a new server and start from scratch if it means being able to participate in twinking again.

All that said, which brackets are the most popular at the moment? And how popular is popular? If I'm only going to be able to play 3 rounds twice a week, it's probably not even worth the effort and the money to buy Cataclysm, re-subscribe, and get back on the twink train, particularly if I have to grind on my main account to get heirlooms.

I mean I understand why Blizzard separated XP/nonXP BG's. I like the idea of being able to level up on PvP if I actually cared about reaching the level cap. And I understand why everyone was complaining that twinks ruin BGs, though I didn't really agree with them. But now I'm worried that with these recent changes I wouldn't get enough playtime as a twink to even justify returning to WoW as a twink at all.

Thanks in advance for your help.

EU or US?

EU activity

The most active brackets are 19, 24 and 70.

I myself are playing on the 39 bracket. Currently we don't have games but we are working on it. We have around 10-15 alliance that is active on Draenor and we have 4-5 on Horde side on Draenor. But we have been recruiting a lot and if all those I have recruited would start playing horde we would have atleast 15 active on Draenor.

I would recommend joining us since we are willing to gear you up and enchant you up for free. PM me if you are interested

I'm US, Whisperwind server, but like I said in OP I'll go wherever the community is. After so many years of inactivity I've probably lost my guild and all my active friends, too, so I'm going to be picking up the pieces upon my return one way or another.

That said, getting gear and enchants for free sounds almost too good to be true. I'll have to keep my nose up for more offers like that as I'm debating all this.

How popular are the 19 and 24 brackets? What US servers? My main was 74 when I quit, so unless they've introduced some de-leveling mechanic I'd have to walk the long road to 70 again to participate in that bracket, whereas I can hit 19 or 24 in only a few days. I'll go ask around on those sections of this forum.

Thanks again.

Welcome back!

If twinking is the reason you're coming back, I can't think of any reason you'd need Cataclysm unless you want to play in the 80-84 bracket. The main thing you'll love to know: all battlegroups are merged when it comes to battlegrounds. Cross-battlegroup battlegrounds got implemented last August/September. Therefore, it doesn't matter what server you're on to get into games. Choose a server based on community.

US brackets that get daily games: 19, 20-24, 70-74, 80-84. I don't know if 60-64 still gets daily games or not -- hopefully someone can chime in with that info.

49s play three nights a week, and both 29s and 39s are diligently working on reviving themselves (they both got games one night last week).

These days, most new or returning players start with the 19 or 70-74 bracket. Leveling to a high bracket sounds like a lot of work, but leveling goes (relatively) ridiculously fast nowadays. You can hit 19 in a few hours, and 70 within 20-24 hours of game time. 70s and 80s get arenas, which no other bracket does now that skirmishes are gone. That said, if you join a server with an active twinker population, you'll be able to coordinate wargames, which are basically same-server arenas.

If you played 19 before, I'd say go 19 again to help get a feel for what changed while you were gone. After that, you may want to branch out to other brackets depending on what you enjoy about twinking. 70-74 is currently the most popular upper bracket, as almost all the PvP gear is readily available and cheap. You can step onto the field with 95% of the stats of BiS the moment you ding 70, by saving up honor and gold as you level.

Happy twinking!

Sounds like 19 bracket's the word for now, then. I'll go find a server with a good 19 twink guild and join up. I have a chargeback on my account for $45 that I have to pay off in addition to buying a new subscription, so if I'm going to be putting up the $60 (assuming I'm not buying cataclysm) to come back, I want to be part of an active community.

Thanks for the helpful post.

If you're going to 19's and want an active server.....Bleeding Hallow is by far the most active and will have players constantly queuing on both sides

The games are currently pretty balanced with games being decided in the 5 mins when debuff kicks in.

(Might be an idea to create a another twink (same or different side) as their are periods when one side dominates and its nice to change it up),

If you plan on being BiS, you might wanna get an 85 (if you don't have one) to get BOA Helm and cloak.

P.S Probs already know, but you need to lock xp. Hate for you to make a twink then level him. Good Luck (and go ally

Going by the activity of this forum the 19 bracket is far the most popular, followed by 20-24s, followed by 70s. 20-24s have about 66% of the traffic as 19s and 70s have about 40% of the traffic that 19s have. This obviously won't correlate perfectly into in game activity.

85 > 70 > 20-24 > 19 > all other brackets in terms of activity.

I find that the 70s are the most interesting bracket. You get to raid old bc raids which are a lot of fun get your pve gear from raiding sunwell and saving up mats. Also, queue times are very low so it'll be easy for you to get pvp in. And, as long as you have 2175 honor (or 2300 if youre a hunter) you'll have the full pvp gear {rings, trink, you dont need the health one, 5set, and weapons)
