Ret Pally question

I assume BAR is better because it has higher top end damage/weapon speed, plus the difference in stam/crit. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It's the speed that makes the difference. The extra crit is just a bonus. Get both and see for yourself. BaR is much better.

I probably will. Not much else to go for with Honor anyway.

I'm more curious about the pants though. I'll be getting both more than likely and can do testing but I was curious if there was already solid theorycraft on AP vrs Crit at low level. Haven't found anything on google, still looking.

THanks

Bob

BAR all day, but im not to sure about the pants. On my ret i use Scales of Aku'mai and I seem to do just fine.

There's a difference between 100% time on target PvE and PvP burst. For myself, hitting as hard as possible is the way to go. I use the GF 5 stam 11 str pants.

On my warrior I just stacked strength/stam. You'll get a lot of crit from boa chest/shouders/axe as well as cloak/belt if you want. You start dropping too much strength from your gear and you gimp yourself. With your weapon, it's different because it's not all about stats but weapon damage and speed as well.

I'd go with Foreman's Leggings. 7 strength is way too much to ignore.

It's a little different for a paladin, since intellect adds to spell crit and mana pool, so you'll exo and heal crit more often too. Heal crit means healing once instead of twice and gets you back into the fight that much sooner. Also lets you have a little more utility in healing others just a little more, or that one extra exo spam. The problem is that losing strength means you hit for less and heal for less. There's certainly some room for personal opinion here, but I'd take the shield over the pants, and Foreman's over Scales.

Quick check over at chardev shows that you'd have to drop down to about 175AP to get close to 20% crit (horde side at least). Compared to 240AP and 10% crit.

It is different for palis since they make use of intellect, but I'd still gear a Ret pali like I would a warrior.

I'd have to agree with this.

If I'm going to play ret I'm going full glass cannon, I'm not going to gear to increase my utility because yes while I can throw a heal out now or then my main goal is to shit all over the EFC as fast as possible, and that is what I'm going to gear for. If you wanna play utility run holy and heal / XO spam everything in sight.

^ ret paladins go down rlly fast since they have pretty much no forms of cc otherwise than the lengthy HoJ. Most kills from ret will be huge amounts of burst. Its important to have stam but even greater strength. Intellect isnt very useful for ret. Prot and holy yes but not ret.

7 str = 14 AP = 1 DPS = 3.8 additional damage assuming bar

I'd take the scales over foreman's unless you plan on going prot any time soon.

I just picked up http://www.wowhead.com/item=53423 seeing as it's almost a good and waaaaaay easier to get.

I'll grab the scales when I start BFD runs.

Spec is still up in the air. I loved PvP holy in the 59s but that was in vanilla. I don't know if I'd enjoy a neutered version of that. I prot tanked heroics for a while and it was fun but I never really got an excited feeling about prot. It was kinda meh.

Anyway. Mostly I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing any odd gearing combos based off of all the mechanics changes that have happened over the last year or so.

Thx

Both Crusader Strike and Templar's Verdict are based on weapon damage. Scales are also like 70? extra mana for:

-finishing off that hunter with one last exo

-1.5 sec cast heal yourself to full

-moar exo

i'm wondering why people choose to go prot? i always thought it was just gimping yourself i mean you get some HP but lose the amazing holy shock and no WoG cd... but then again you can do dps w/o casting and w/ casting but still isnt holy better?
