disc priest smite/holyfire pvp

i want to try out something different along the lines of a casting, damage dealing priest



i was wondering if going disc, then using holy spells for dmg, and killing people like that is any viable?



If so, should i go with full brutal and gem int/haste, or since im disc should i just get all out pve gear and gem it? (like what rogues do now)
 
Well I think you could get some damage done, however don't expect to be able to solo healers without a silence, or kill anyone who is getting healed, as you won't have the burst for it.



However it could be fun and if you get good with it, could be viable for BGs. And to answer your question I'd go for PvE gear and gem it, and hide from rogues

Disc is OP vs double dps , shadowfiend brings a dps to 40% hp

Don't know of anybody playing a solely-offensive Disc/holy priest, althrough Holy fire + Mindblast + Penance + tazik does sting.



But really, you'd lack burst and wouldn't be able to kill anything with the ability, and willingness to heal. In my opinion, If you'd like to play offensively, Roll as shadow.

I know someone who used to go holy DPS in TBC, but then again that was holy, not disc, and always brought paladins with 10% increase holy damage aura, and utilized groups like that.



Disc DPS in PvP would be fun to see though
 
stupid idea, you will have to heal yourself anyway when you are 1v1 with a rogue for example, just use reflected shield talent, stack dots, and kite.

there is no way you can dps the same as the mage and dont will be able to heal.
 
To the OP, about 9-10 months ago I played a 70 holy paladin for a very short time and did 2's with a disci priest. I was specced for exo where as he was specced for smite/holyfirespam.

In 2's we would just faceroll DPS teams and could even take out healer/DPS teams. If I remember correctly we were at about 1.9k rating.



It was not the most optimal comp but it sure as hell was fun to play and semi-viable sub-2k.
 
its all about shield absorbs, paly exo insane damage, a little assists from a priest and BURN THE HEALER.

its not about priest omfg dps.
 
your going to want to stack haste and aquire synapse. I had this exact idea you had a couple months ago, and i wanted to test it so i gemed my 60 priest toward haste, and my rotation was like holyfire directly after the healing dot, then mind blast (1.5 sec ungeared for all specs and high damaging) and directly after shadow word death. then smite spam. I can see this being extremely overpowered if you were to haste stack, however as Dimsal said, dont expect to kill healers unless you get alot of lucky crits in a row. If you are going to try this at 70, you will need synapse for sure. But i would suggest checking out 80 bracket and doing the same thing. Then you can hybrid into holy and get a 2 second smite cast unstat'd.
