Getting a gaming laptop built, need pointers. 1-2K price range.

Dangerdoom

Legend
title says it all.

i am working a night shift security and i want to put together a laptop that wil work for gaming and everything else.

streaming movies, music,

i need pointers on processor and graphics chip needed to give good fps with WoW.

i'd be on wireless.

my 1500$ hp dv7 works great for all of the above. with 2k upgrade the processor and gpu, and if theres still room in the budget toss in some more ram. black friday and cyber whatever are coming up soon so id recommend holding out until then to get the best deal(s) possible

tip: if youre gonna be stationary the whole time take out the battery and run just off the power cord so you dont kill your battery life. not that gaming pcs have long battery lives anyways

the M18 alienware from dell looks pretty sweet if you customize it a bit.

it is overpriced somewhat, but that is offset by the fact that they'll throw me 3K credit with no interest for a year and low payments.

i just got a 2nd job and i won't even notice a $100/mo payment, but shelling out 2-4K all at once would hurt.

If you're limiting yourself to 2k, I'd recommend building a desktop or waiting until you have the appropriate funds. It's not something you go half in on, as the laptop would be expenseive to upgrade. You could build a suitable Desktop with 2k because Desktop parts are cheaper. If you absolutely have to get it now, I'd recommend getting a private company to build it, and taking out a loan instead of financing one. Most computer repair stores usually have a genius who will gladly construct your computer for you if you buy the parts, that's how I did mine . Retailers will rob you blind. I have friends who've sunk thousands of dollars into computers preparing for SWTOR. I've spent half the money they have and have a better portable gaming machine.`

for one danger, alienware is a huge waste of money. its a dell with an alienware badge and an extra price hike. even back when they were a nice boutique pc shop they were still wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy overpriced.

my advice would also be to buy your new pc straight up rather than finance it or take a loan out. thats always my philosophy on large purchases..

and for two will, you rarely if ever upgrade a laptop. finding parts and doing the work is a bitch compared to a desktop. not to mention opening the case will nearly always void a warranty if youre still under it

but 2k is not half assing it. if you would have read my post you wouldve seen my 1.5k laptop is runs wow perfectly perfectly fine on highest settings, and its nearing 2 years old too.

never mind the fact he wants a laptop to use while he's working (lol), so a desktop seems pretty out of the question. and for 2k you can build a pretty bomb ass comp. if youre friends are paying more than 2k for a desktop for swtor, theyre dumb as hell

and were you suggesting he has a repair store build him a desktop? cuz thatd be a waste of money

Speaking of trolls...

What a clever use of grammatical mastery, picking apart one's post which was a complete opinion peppered with loosely based facts- and turning it into a potential argument. Next time save OP the trouble and just make a topic labled "I'm always right" and start challenging forum users to tests of computer know-how. Just keep being smart about it though, you make it a point not to flame and that's pretty professional. Must be the only reason you've lasted this long.

just because pretty much everything you said is wrong, and pretty much everything i said is right doesnt mean im trolling dotdotdot

kids still get butthurt and throw out troll like they know the meaning, yeesh

I got this one built for 1k in January. 224-9506 1 XPS L501X 317-5418 1 Intel Core i7-740QM 1.73GHz / up to SC 2.93GHz / 6M 317-5422 1 4GB,DDR3,2 DIMM 331-0482 1 Standard Keyboard (Internal) - English 320-1669 1 NVIDIA GeForce GT 435M 2GB graphics 342-1682 1 500GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive

I get about 70 FPS. Can easily fraps or dual box. Fantastic purchase.

i wasn't saying that i am limited to 2K that was a starting point, also i have a top of the line desktop that i built, but i don't like the idea of messing around with building a laptop.

and yes i know that it is better to buy big purchases outright. however dell has a package deal on right now on the M17 + i have a corporate discount. and the 3K credit line is 12 mo no interest if PIF which it will be of course.

im not an idiot, im prob the only poster on this forum who has pulled myself up from nothing to millionaire.

so what if i gave my exwife the range rover and the paid off 450K house so they won't need anything. lol.

i just finished my geophysics degree, but jobs are scarce here and so im working 2X crappy jobs till something comes up and work is too boring without a gaming laptop , lol.

id limit myself at 2k. two thousand dollars is more than enough to get a laptop that will perfectly handle wow and your other needs for multiple years

and rather than rushing into an alienware, or any brand, now you might want to wait a few weeks and see what deals come with black friday n such
