Targeting

It comes with practice. So long as you're not leaning too much on the Tab key you'll be fine, just keep at it.

That being said, your movement controls might be part of the problem. A, by default, makes you pivot to the left; and D makes you pivot to the right... if you hold right-click down while pressing those buttons, their function shifts to strafing instead of pivoting. Personally, I found myself constantly holding down the right click button so that I could strafe with A and D, instead of Q and E, which screwed with my targeting cuz the mouse was often occupied already. My solution was to bind strafing to A and D, which took the mouse out of the equation, and freed up Q and E for ability keybinds opposed to movement. Since the mouse was no longer used for that, it was much easier to keep it open for targeting and pivoting.

Fair warning, if you unbind Q and E from strafing and switch it instead to A and D, you're going to try to hit Q and E a lot just out of habit - it will take a bit to get used to. I'd recommend leaving the Q and E keys with no binding until your used to strafing with A and D, otherwise you're going to unintentionally blow a lot of CD's.

Once you get used to the change, though, you'll never go back to A and D for turning... that should be done with the mouse anyway.

Good luck!

turn on the health bars with V

set your tab targeting button to "target nearest enemy player" instead of just "target nearest enemy"

use focus macros

With a proper read of your opponents you will *always* be ready for the next event:
  • CC on healer/focus
  • DPS on assist/focus
  • Flag pickup

But even a proper read won't mean anything if you are not ready to react:
  • is your finger directly over the keybind for trinket at the very second prior to being CC'd?
  • is your cursor directly over the incoming CC/Dps target?

If mouse control is a problem there are a few tricks you can do:
  • Turn off mouse acceleration
  • PRACTICE accuracy and precision

I also tend to turn off nameplates immediately before an fc is about to die if it is surrounded by enemies. Sometime you have to orient the camera so that you split the enemies apart in the screen space.

It is not possible to make a macro to target someone based on HP.

Along with binding strafe to a&d and leaving nameplates on I do tab target alot, and for that I use Smart Targetting.

(If your too lazy to click the link, when you enter a BG or Arena or Guru it auto sets tab to only target enemy players, eliminating accidentally targeting pets and totems

It does return the setting to normal upon exiting the above areas)

Very useful when your finishing someone off and a hunter runs into the room and you need to tabstun really fast to finish you work.

Also you may want to get Tidy Plates I've found the shapes of the 'grey' skin make it a lot easier to target via nameplate.

Already got tidyplates and it indeed helps a lot with targeting, gonna try out smarttargeting now
