With almost every other MMO developer seeing that 'free to play' supported by microtransactions is a viable business model, but with Blizzard giving the impression that F2P is something they don't want to support (and in fact want to limit as far as possible), what do the players of WoW F2P think?

Are Blizzard actually going to lose paying customers if they nerf their F2P, (that is already very limited compared to other games)?

Only have a F2P account on US and I would easily use all the paid service blizzard has out there, even blizzard store. Heck I even bought Winged Guardian to see if it did work, got a refund though.

If F2P is nerfed, Blizzard would "hope to god" that the trial caught on with most people...and then would buy the full retail version.

I paid in BC, I loved the game. All I hear about now is rehash rehash rehash. PvP is still unbalanced. So unless I come into some money I won't be paying. Although I do miss grinds for fun shit, like rare pets or cool mounts

Something about the limitations and challenges makes F2P more fun for me. I used to sub, I sold my account's several times. And now i play for free and have just as much fun.

Why I don't pay: my husband is an actuary and has to take all these fatty tests, one coming up soon...wow is already too big of a distraction for him.

I have an inactive paid account. The pre Cat patch was just plain broken. Lots of crashes. I did not like what happened to ret, and raiding stopped because people were getting bored/not used to new talents and PvP was terrible. Even the last rush to get achievements before Cat was difficult because as soon as I got summoned to Ulduar my PC crashed and wouldn't stop crashing as soon as I logged in.

Fast foward a few months and Cat came out, I did eventually buy it for $20, and gave it a go, I didn't really get that into it. Ret was slightly less broken, but the game just wasn't as enjoyable for me anymore, and still constantly crashed. I lost interest for six months and didn't really think much of it, but did still keep in touch with some people that played WoW. Anyway, F2P came out, I thought I'd give it a go for nostalgia's sake, and much to my surprise did find that I enjoyed it, and am still playing a few months later, although I must admit, not nearly as enthusiastically as I was to begin with.

As for paying in the future, I got a seven day trial recently and just wasn't into 85 content at all. I made a DK to support my F2P and that's pretty much all I did on the paid account. I do have a TCG pet. I didn't personally pay for it, someone gave it to me. There are things I'd consider paying for if it was worth it to me, but I'm not interested in World of Kung Fu Pandacraft, or anything currently on offer.

I have a P2P account with 2 85's, tons of heirlooms, etc... I like playing F2P because I know it will always be there. Even if I have no money, I can still play. I bought a 60-day card from Wal-mart to roll a DK on AP to help my F2P.

I go through WoW cycles. I usually buy the new expansion, get fully into the new content, run the new dungeons, get good gear, begin raiding, then get bored. Meeting at the same time every night wiping on the same boss doesn't interest me very much. I like 20's as it appeals to my short attention span.

Well so far the only conclusive thing that the poll is showing, is that F2Ps without a paid account can't read.

Not sure what you were *actually* expecting...

Anyways, I've had paid accounts before and enjoyed raiding/pvp etc. I may activate for the legendary daggers so I can destroy ppl leveling in MoP... I might not.

Right now f2p is plenty of utility for me. However, I may pay just to reduce grinding and access more powerful gearing/enchants when the horde team needs balance. I want good games... but they are few are far between. Both premades and pugs are too one sided as things are now. This bracket is bad... but so are ALL the others.

Just waiting on guild wars 2. Those game designers convinced me during this presentation:

Designing Guild Wars 2

This solves many of the problems with MMOs in general. Its great to see large studios implement these changes to the formula.

Titan will probably solve the general problems too, but they won't budge on it till some real competition shows up. Guild Wars 2 is the next step in mmo gaming, I expect Titan mechanics to be VERY similar.

What I think a lot of F2Ps might have said is something along the lines of 'All the brackets are bad, but at least this one is worth what we're paying'.

^^^ Lol its f2p. The fact its free should be enough to convince somebody to play.

  • Tooh87, Starup and Deadvulcano like this

What is wrong with you people? If everything is bad and you're playing it bad being bad then stop being bad and go do something else.
