AP Alliance needs a Guild Master

Strangelove

Legend
  • title says it all really, someone with the power to lay down the law, respected and democratically elected, humanity cannot function without authority

All this fighting and whining has got to stop

    I disagree wholeheartedly.

The process would cause more strife then resolve.

I almost choked to death while reading this...! Whats with all the drama?

You're like... 20 people running bgs and arenas, what law and democracy are you talking about?
    <

If you consider other players to be your friends or at least casual pals, and have a problem with them, then talk things out... ;p We're not gonna go into Handling People 1.0.1

This would be great if everyone was mature enough to do so. However, there are far too many people that are far too immature for this to work.

While I think a "leader" is a bit over the top, some sort of "rules" to be allowed in the chat channel should be implemented. From the last topic I created, I learned that the forums can't do anything about who joins the channel in game. That will have to come from the community itself.

Basically, we need to be able to remove the trolls and the jerks to keep the community a friendly, fun place to play.

More like 40-50 different people on over the course of the day, that constitutes a society, an open ungoverned society ultimately descends into chaos and you get QQ threads and people leaving

That's all well and good except for this

A "Leader" may be over the top I can understand why people may feel that way, but a leader isn't all about the law, every guild has a GM and officers, usually responsible for picking the "A team" "B team" etc and organizing matches as well as establishing a code of conduct and enforcing it, but if a general consensus could be reached to establish a code of conduct then I'm all for that

There's going to be a feature in an upcoming version of the addon:
    • Add up all the time that you have seen all the other characters online.
    • Where someone has more than one alt, add the time for them together.
    • When you log out, if you have channel owner/moderator, you will pass it to whoever you've seen online the most (so long as they are level 20, and on an F2P account).

It's mainly to keep non-F2Ps from taking over the channel, but should also give the most active community members more chance of being moderator than people who only log in rarely.

This is great, thanks for everything you do for the community!

The only thing left is who decides who stays and who goes? I like Strangelove's idea of a "board" if you will. Similar to the guild set up with GM and Officers. Obviously people we would elect, and those who would have the best interests of the community in mind.

The first person that comes to my mind is Kincade. She is always talking of bettering the community and spreading the word of the morals and ethics of F2P players on AP.

Maybe we should make a preliminary topic to create a ballot, then make a poll topic for actual voting?

Assuming this thread is referring to free to play accounts

F2P is open entry and exit. It is an open community. The only person that can reasonably control anything is Yasueh with the modifications to the addon.

As far as leader goes... its not possible.

One of the features of f2p is this exact problem. There are no applications, and there are no rule sets. We don't accept ppl in to tryouts after a rigorous application process and then remove them when that can't perform. We don't test if the individual is the right fit for our community/guild.

The community is bigger than any individual. (And its not like they all use these forums either)

What "seems" to be missing is something that forms naturally in an open community:

Individuals decide to take on responsibilities and they become the lead for that component.

Some ppl have already taken up the responsibility to:
    • Make it possible for this community to have chat functionality (Yasueh's addon)
    • Help EU with information on connecting to US servers
    • Help group ppl up for premades and dungeons [p2p's]
    • Write guides for various classes/achievements/etc
    • Compile a goto thread for various f2p movies
    • etc etc.

Some of those ppl will move on and another may or may not take that persons place.

What this thread is asking for is p2p features. But even then no p2p guild can ever represent the f2p community. And no f2p has authority over any other f2p.

That being said... if someone wants to take responsibility for ppl "fighting and whining" good luck. Its not possible.

    i vote kincaide!!!!

he seems like a decent reasonable guy!!

    aside from that

we do not really need a leader however we DO NEED CHANNEL MODERATORS

to stop the 24s from trolling us and internal feuds

Deadvulcano, I definitely see what you mean. However, I don't think we were looking for an actual Guild Master and Officers, rather a group of leaders who can be looked upon for assistance with certain things.

While the F2P community is certainly open to everyone, there are obviously going to be people who don't belong in the chat channel. The modifications Yasueh is making to the chat addon will be great, but there needs to be a way to reliable remove trolls from joining the channel to disrupt the community. Just like a P2P guild, if someone doesn't "get along" with everyone else, they have the option to adjust their attitude to fit in with the community or leave. At the same time, we don't want anyone getting ban-happy as the current channel mod (again, the additions Yasueh is making will help greatly with this).

I know these cases are few and far between as of now, but who knows what could happen in the future.

we definitely do not need any kind of leader or leadership in the f2p bracket

one of the best parts of this bracket has been not having to deal with the random douchebags that always appear out of nowhere on the internet and try to lay down bizarrely misguided chains of command despite having no qualifications whatsoever

we basically have all the good parts of a guild (guild chat, guild instance runs, guild pvp groups) without any of the bad parts of a guild (guild power struggles, awkward attempts at deferring to authority, incompetent leadership)

yasueh's mods have basically done all of the organizing by themselves (and have done a damn good job of it)

These ppl, who can be looked upon for assistance, are already the ones that are known for that.

The p2p guild reasoning was exactly my point. The problem is that in a real guild, not those guilds that mass invite everyone, but the real guilds that make something for themselves do not just have anyone in their guild.

The F2P community is a collection of ppl from previous brackets and new ppl to twinking alike. It is a community unlike any other twink bracket available. Anyone can make a new toon and join our guild / chat channel. While I do enjoy the text that comes from these "leaders who can be looked upon for assistance" I hope that ppl realize how difficult this situation is.

    EXAMPLE:
    • Some guilds troll for fun in trade in guild in general, you name it. Its all fun and not a problem.
    • Some guilds are just leveling guilds with helpful ppl that don't care about any return.
    • Some guilds are hardcore pvp/pve and take everything very seriously
    • Some guilds are completely laid back and couldn't care less if they cant successfully complete any content.
    • Some guilds (my favorite) are technically focused, chat only about information concerning specs, theorycrafting, encounters etc. Only allow highly focused individuals that understand the advantages of loot council with zero drama at all times.

So if I told my ppl exactly were I went and invited them here and we made p2p accounts and were vocal about our opinions and spent time on the forums, would you enjoy living under our technically minded and zero tolerance on drama style? What if that vocal minority was any of the other above examples? I'll tell you right now we have ppl from all of these backgrounds and more.

If said individuals see this or aspiring leaders see this it should be known that some individuals set of standards does not fit the community as a whole. The silent opinions will be ignored. People will refuse leadership from a vocal minority and cause retention problems.

Yasueh has stated several different ways that he intends to implement "troll controls." I don't mean to speak for everyone, but I bet the vast majority of individuals do not want any more control over their playstyle than the obvious troll assistance that Yasueh plans to implement via his addon.

There is a simple solution to this that will otherwise create itself... and it already has with a few circles.

One thing to remember is the ignore feature does work with the f2p chat channel/mod. If someone is trolling the channel just put them on ignore. When nobody can see their chat they'll just be wasting their own time. Once Yasueh(love you <3) gets the next version of the mod running there should be a lot less highjacking of the chat channel. Till then we'll just have to stop feeding the trolls and maybe they'll get bored.

In the case of real f2p players feuding try to remind them this is a game we're here to have fun. We're all in the channel and most of just want everyone to get along. Ask them to tone it down or take it to whispers. Often politely asking people is all that's needed to calm things down.

We're all real people, we have RL problems, we don't need more drama in game.
