Weapons in low level Battlegrounds?

Does it matter what weapon I use in PvP in Legion? Do its damage scale like the rest of the stats with "Item Level"? When we open our "Character Info", there are just Agility, Critical Strike and Versatility (for hunter) and we can see our Damage only if we use addons like "DejaCharacterStats". So... is there a difference if I use a gun with 1,500 - 2,500 Damage (631 dps) or 3,000 - 5,000 Damage, or both of these guns will be scaled and do the same damage in Battlegrounds?

In instanced pvp (bgs, arena) the only things that come into play are item level and weapon speed depending on your class. Generally a slower weapon will mean higher damage but depending on the bracket could mean a lower item level.
