Searching the official forums I've not found a definitive answer yet. They say all you need is a subscription but does that mean you need a subscription for the whole game and F2P's will be able to play to 10 or 20? Or does it mean YOU NEED A SUBSCRIPTION! :p

"Active Subscription" seems like a pretty definitive answer to me.

Active subscription, I believe. F2P is considered inactive.

Your retail wow account must have active game time for you to play classic. There is no F2P version of classic. I couldnt even reserve names on my F2P bnet accounts. Had to swap bnets to my active accounts.

Ok, thanks everyone who responded, I guess that takes care of that :( Too bad, would have loved it.
I guess we can hope that perhaps some time in the future they will allow trials.

You could just stop being cheap and pay the monthly fee.

I think the main interesting point of F2P in classic would be they would be the only ones with XP locked. But stay low lil man.

You dont get xp in bg's so the only point in f2p is the Free part

Has this changed? Because in the past I was hoping that you wouldn't get exp from bgs that way I could stay at 19 in the 10-19 bracket instead of 20 in the 20-29. I've leveled toons to 20 starting when you can first enter a bg with no quests at all after that by doing only bgs.

They didnt implement xp in bgs until like wrath, I could be wrong on the patch. In classic, bgs do not give xp.

No xp in BG's, that's a staple of the whole premise of classic twinking.

Although I do remember getting XP for using those marks that filled up my mailbox... but cant remember when that was.

What are you going to do with a twink in classic other than play bgs and duel? You cant farm anything but low level herbs, there are no epic upgrades, youll farm all your gear before you hit 19/29/39/49/59.

Oh wow, then if we F2Ps do ever get to play classic in the future we theoretically could choose to "lock" ourselves at the top of a BG bracket. Although I'm not sure about other considerations, like scaling. Perhaps a 19 F2P in classic might be stomped even harder a 20 F2P in BFA.

There's no locking mechanic in classic, youd be locked at 20 by default just like now. That's a terrible thing.

The brackets are X0-X9... right? They began differently tho, with X0 being the cap. It's verified that's not happening?

    World PvP, i'd assume.

No flying, no 120 trying for achievements in every zone... just PvP. Not like WoW is now. Classic WPvP was fun.

the idea Crystal was bringing up was the possibility of an account capped f2p trial in vanilla. IE a pve twink that could push pve content without having to worry about leveling.

Which, admittedly, would be kinda cool. though not in keeping with the spirit of classic at all.

Yeah, I was just replying to twinleton but looking at it again I guess what he was saying was just the same as normal classic twinking because you would never level above 19 if you only did battlegrounds. I misunderstood.

Here was the original f2p trial, at any rate... not that they'd go that far retro:

Heh... I've still got a couple of those stashed somewhere. I wonder if Blizzard™ would actually honor them once Classic™ launches! :D
