Shaman and Maelstrom management questions

I have both a 10 and 15 shaman that I recently changed from enhancement to elemental/resto but I was wondering if the extra lightning bolt/lava burst you get from mastery actually added to the maelstrom you are trying to build up for the earth shock? Wasn't sure if I was supposed to be trying to add more mastery or even if that would help build up maelstrom faster.

it adds maelstrom but not as much as a regular cast.

Yes mastery's additional casts does generate additional maelstrom (not as much)
Its quite good for the lower levels as we lack additional abilities to generate additional maelstrom quickly
