So I am returning to retail after a huge break from the game and f**k me there is a lot of changes.

Twinking was a huge part of why I play this game & Im very excited at the prospect of F2P/Vet.

    • What is the difference between the 2?
    • What should I pick & why? Benefits for 1 or the other?
    • [EU] - Any active servers or guild recruiting?
    • Is there any F2P discord servers?
    • Which nichè classes are fun to play?
Thanks in advance! Cya all in the flagroom ;)

Lets start with the most obvious, Vet has much much more advantage than pure f2p. Heres why:
1- You can use the Chronormu mechanic to your hearts content bec you have playtime (Vet) Choosing any kind of expansion. Which is easier to que up for TBC dungeons for those sweet socket gear.
2- Being vet meaning you have a high lvl character at your disposal, buying certain mats gear that helps makes the experience much easier. For example, the infamous Ghost dragon trinket requires Cataclysm 75 engineer which is a feat to do on a f2p character.
3-You can use XP off to your hearts content bec f2p cant use it inside BGs. Only pve, meaning f2p is limited to 20 bracket
4- You have access to mail, AH and trade.
Im sure there's much more advantages but thats all i can remember.

    Thanks!

How do the que times vary for xp off & f2p though?

No point having a shiney, well geared toon if it takes me an hour to get a game surely?

I will be honest, i never treid to be a vet before nor have i did the chronormu mechanic. That there is out of my reach im afraid. But as for f2p, you cant que anything except 2 instances. Atal'Dazar and Freehold from bfa and both suck ass for newbie players.
Hence why the Chronormu mechanic helps you to transfer the player to the desired expansion to join its perspective dungeon. As for que time? I do not know.

I did explain this in my last reply to you:

A vet character is a toon that uses game time, locks their xp at level 20 to gear up and receive all the benefits of a regular account (Most importantly gaining access to mail/AH to acquire gems, enchants, gear etc.).
Once that toon as geared up & you want to play it in battlegrounds you must turn your xp back on and either wait for the account gametime to run out or transfer the toon to an account without gametime.

So the queue times will be the same as a f2p & any other leveller looking to queue a battleground.

Vets are just bad F2Ps that need every advantage they can get.

You can still get artifact weapons.

For the first 2-3 days of Shadowlands pre-patch you were able to get +14 ilvl relics for artifact weapons (your artifact weapon has glorified gem slots that artifact relics fit into, they used to have more purpose in legion but their effects are drasticly reduced since that expansion. Now they just add ilvl to the weapon, raising all stats), you can put 2 relics into the weapon for a massive 28 ilvl boost.
Now the best you can acquire at level 20 is +7 ilvl x 2.

They're still the best option for your weapon apart from some niche weapons with juicy proc effects.

Vets are just lazy f2ps now.

Also, the overwhelming majority of f2ps are worse than the average vet.

    There's actually 3 different types of 20's.

Vet = has gametime while gearing, making things a lot easier. You can buy BoEs/gems/enchants/mats/consumables/supplies from the AH, and if you have a level 50+ main you have access to all timewalking campaigns (opens up a lot more content). Vets are the go-to for people who want a quick and easy way to get into the twinking scene and maybe have a lump of gold sitting around.

Linked F2P = never has gametime, which means you can't trade, can't use AH, and you're sort of an "ironman" meaning everything you acquire you need to acquire on your own, so it takes a lot more effort/time to get to the same level of stats/gear as a Vet can relatively quickly. Linked F2P has the advantage of being on the same Blizzard account as your main, meaning you still have access to all of your unlocked mounts, toys, appearances, heirlooms and, most importantly, timewalking campaigns (like Vets). Linked F2P is a sort of "middle ground" between the convenience of a Vet, and the "hardcore" nature of a Pure F2P because you aren't restricted content-wise, but are still a F2P.

Pure F2P = never has gametime, AND you're on a fresh Blizzard account. This is the hardest and most restrictive because you don't get timewalking, so you miss out on important content like TBC dungeons, and you don't get access to any of the Collections items that you've unlocked on your main account. Pure F2Ps are at a pretty significant disadvantage this xpac. 1/10, would not recommend.

In terms of communities, Teldrassil Firefighters is awesome, but we're NA. Have a discord though. Not sure about the EU scene.

And in terms of niche classes/specs, it's really up to you man. The bracket seems really dynamic right now due to the huge amount of content/gearing choices that SL has given us, so you should pick whatever class/spec you think is coolest/most fun/engaging. Don't worry about "flavor of the month" spects; just do what you'd have the most fun with and if you put in the time gearing/learning you can be successful with pretty much anything. Keep in mind that most of the time in BGs you’ll be fighting predominantly levelers, so even a “mediocre” class/spec will still be pretty powerful when you get some gear/gems/enchants. The min-maxing only really makes a noticeable difference in competitive, twink-vs-twink wargames (but it’s also a fun/interesting component of the scene for many people).

TL;DR: if you want to get into 20’s quickly, go with a Vet. If you want more of an “Ironman” experience, go with a Linked F2P. If you’re certifiably insane and enjoy voluntary suffering, go with a Pure F2P. Play what you enjoy spec-wise, and don’t feel like you HAVE to worry about perfecting every little stat unless you’re into the min-maxing thing (covering the bases with dungeon gear, a few enchants and gems will be more than enough to start wrecking face in BGs). And most of all have fun with it! Twinking is a really cool experience and community once you get into it.

Theoretically yes, we can get the same gear now. But now at the start vets are gonna still be better geared and have an advantage cuz no F2P is gonna have had the time to farm out all professions and gear.

Isn't there a fourth between this & Vet (maybe snuggling up alongside Linked F2P in benefits) that has had the occasional free day/s of game time because they are sometimes game-wide giveaways, e.g. the recent pre-patch free weekend, or blagging time from a GM to fix a problem, player/game error or bug?

Just to add unnecessary complexity to something that's not universally important. I'll get my coat...
